Actually I think every game from 2011 sucks. They don’t make games like before. They’re just copies of something done before. That’s why I don’t even bother in playing them. But maybe, just maybe, they make something fresh one of these days. I hope they will.
There’s the problem.
Instead of being a pretentious hipster, you could actually be having fun playing this year’s great games.
Don’t wanna waste ma money in that. If they were free, then I would play them.
Yeah, I haven’t played Modern Warfare 3, but I was surprised not to see it there.
It’s the same with books, music and films… after a bit, you can’t help but borrow some ideas from games you liked. To think of something that someone hasn’t thought of before tends to be really hard.
Care to expand?
But even the plot is the same. I mean, you can make a book about the same the,e that one that was made before. Same genre. Same everything, but you will change the story.
In games, you can repeat genre(FPS, sandbox, RPG), theme(War, crime, cowboys, etc). But THEY KEEP DOING THE SAME FUCKING VIDEO GAMES ABOUT RUSSIAN VS AMERICANS, WWII OR ZOMBIES. WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT. I would like to see new stories, like Call of Juarez did, or that game that didn’t succeed, “Darkest of days”. Even GTA with its cheap storyline is better.
Think about it. We’ve got like 100 games about WWII, other 100 about zombies, at least 50 about fictional conflicts envolving evil powers in present day that try to seize the world power. What about a group of Arabians trying to steal the gold of some Emmir in Turkey in the 15th century? Or an ATF agent who discovers an evil sect to in the Middle West of U.S. and destroys it before they kill the pro-abortion Governor of Minnesota? You’ll never see that kind of games. They don’t sell.
Might as well just quit gaming altogether then because you’re not getting those type of plots in games since they’re more fit for movies.
By restricting yourself with that way of thinking, you’re truly missing out on great games.
There are some places where you can still find new stories. But they’re not usually new games. Just modifications. That’s why I’m here.
You’re a fucking moron Joe
I haven’t really played most of those, with the exception of Battlefield 3 and Portal 2, so I don’t really feel qualified to cast a vote. To be honest though, I really don’t have faith in most of the selection, so I think it doesn’t really matters. The Witcher 2 was kind of interesting but, it kinda feels heavy somehow. Probably because I played for about an hour.
Also Joe, why are you looking for a new storyline in a remake mod?
and another year without bms wohoo :S
Uncharted 3 doesn’t come close either. Way too many issues with control.
Yes, the writing was a solid as ever, and the voice acting was still oscar worthy, but the gameplay is getting extremely formulaic. They haven’t even made an effort to fix their fucked up aiming controls (not sure if possible, PS3 thumbsticks are the fucking worst).
Arkham city was good, but it still has a lot of problems (Glitches and random difficulty spikes). Plus it really starts to grind when you get to the museum.
BF3. It’s a good shooter. Solid multiplayer. I’m personally addicted to it. That’s not enough for GOTY. Especially not with that campaign.
They’re all really damn good games, and some of the best I’ve played all year, but they don’t have the whole GOTY package.
Uncharted 3 was good but they keep emphasizing looks over anything else. You’ll be running away from a wall of water and the game decides “Hey, let’s make this look cooler by having Drake stumble!” and fucking kills you because it was wanking to it’s own animation porn.
The long chase sequences were my favorites. One in particular recalls the Tangiers chase scene in “The Bourne Ultimatum” in spades.
I’m going to go with Arkham City, simply because I’m too poor to buy Skyrim and Portal 2, despite having a fantastic storyline, fell short on bringing new gameplay mechanics to the table. That wasn’t it’s fault, of course, as there’s only so much you can do with going through portals. Arkham City, however, had the whole “give gamers lots of shit to play with” stuff down pat. The story was great, and even after the plot was finished there was tons of stuff left to do, and when you finished you got the chance to find a secret ending that made your brain leak out through your ears just to stop them from working.
Also, for some reason I thought Dead Space 2 was older.
As much as I love Skyrim, all 90 hours that Ive put into it so far, I gotta put my vote towards The Witcher 2. its a reallly tough toss up between the two but the witcher comes out on top. don’t really have any qualifying reasons as to why but it does for me
I would like to vote for Skyrim. But I voted for Portal 2. some kind of bias
There’s this game that came out in 1998, it sorta flew under the radar and nobody liked it really. It’s called Half-Life, maybe you should give it a shot?
I haven’t decided on my personal GOTY. I never really have in the past, but if I were to decide, I would wait until the year is over and judge all releases I’ve played. (Which will never be nearly enough to make an accurate statement of “This is hands down the best game of the year”)
Question: There is Crysis 2 ?
It’s much better than BF3.
But still, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is my GOTY.
