2009 Iran Election and protest

The thing is, the protest movement is actually against the Ayatollah.
Ahmadenijad/ Mousavi are just symbols for them to rally around. Because Ahmadenijad is backed by the Ayatollah and the IRGC (military leadership), protests against Ahmadenijad are also protests against the whole power structure.

Interestingly enough, the head of the Guardian Council which has the power to appoint/dismiss the Ayatollah is backing Mousavi. But he has been denounced by Ahmadenijad and his family members have been detained by the IRGC, which leads some to believe that, rather than accept their candidates electoral loss, the IRGC has staged what is essentially a military coup.

You forgot to add “I’m watching you!”

I said this. Technically, he has a more open view towards the west. But he still hates Israel, so he’s almost as bad as Hitler, but better than the current president.

It’s a case of the lesser evil.

That makes little to no sense.

It’s alright, ODB usually doesn’t make very much sense when he’s riled up on a topic.

I love how a man who has nothing to do with neither Israel nor Iran states this.
And you know, Muslims and Israeli never lived peacefuly

Well…yes.

It’s been stated that he deosn’t like Israel at all, but is a little more western friendly than Ahmadinejad.

I don’t have to have a connection with Israel or Iran to state the obvious, do I?

Said a guy whose posts are obviously so thoughtful, meaningful and full of sense.

Well, duh. Western friendlieness is the only criteria by which you evaluate every politician…

Shit, when do I learn not to jump into useless politic convos in the internetz…

Sorry guy, but WingedOne does have a point.

Quoting CNN and Fox newsfeeds is not really a point.

Neither is stating I can’t even make one because I live in the US.

no one is trying to restrict your freedom of speech, chill out.

Everything you posted here is based entirely on media reports.
on my side, I have my own reasons not to trust CNN and Fox, since there where certain precedents.

Just sayin’.

Interesting web article on the subject:

You were saying?

You might also mention the flaming monk.

That’s one pretty good editorial there. Thanks mattemuse, good read.

Another pretty crazy video:

Iran was always one of the more “chill” countries out in the middle east, this is so sad.

I tend to believe this will end very soon. They cannot run to their deaths for months.

Well, lest we in the United States get too high-and-mighty about freedom of protest:

It’s the official policy of the US Department of Defense that protests are considered
“low-level terrorism”

I wish I was surprised by that…
