2009 Iran Election and protest

There have been greater injustices in the world, so massively terrible that Iran is a disney ride. Some of these recent attempts of exploiting random, meaningless deaths have given no respect to past social unrest. Loud, violent yelling in the present solely about the future becomes almost meaningless without minding prior parallels :expressionless:

My god, no wonder my debates with you in another thread went nowhere… Although I consider myself a cynic nearly on par with the great W. Allen, I do not share your scaremongering doubt. While your statement holds some nice poetic effect, the current course of our first-world countries and citizens such as yourself makes it obviously clear you will die of old age before witnessing first-hand a populace willing to endanger themselves for the common good, a population active enough to warrant crack-downs by a sedentary government…

tl:dr.

What?

There are 8,000 posts in the off-topic section…NOW!

EDIT: Fuck, I thought this was the WLT…delete me…

All kinds of cultures film stuff like that, jeez I just said that.

The point is you don’t see the other videos because they maybe weren’t as important, or nobody took enough interest in them.

People didn’t film it to say “lol I was der”, it’s so that they could show the world what was happening.

There’s nothing shameful or dishonourable about it.

Funnily enough, Iran was a proper democratic country after WW2. Unfortunately, the government decided to nationalise their oil supplies, which the people agreed with, but the Americans and British didn’t. So the CIA launched a campaign to destabilise the government, and the British Navy blockaded the country. Eventually a coup led by general Zahedi took control of the country.

In short, the first real democracy in Iran was crushed by the biggest Western democracies in the world because they weren’t giving out oil. Is it any surprise that elections are rigged and militaristic theocrats rule the Middle East?

It means “Too long: didn’t read.”

Honestly don’t want to get sucked into this discussion, but I love how there’s only a public reaction to a death when it’s a pretty girl.

From the trends that I’ve noticed over the years, the reaction is more so related to the fact that it was caught on video. Hearing about it is one thing, getting to see it is entirely different.

I’m no one here to judge, but as this Neda story progresses, it is starting to look a little fishy.
First, it was said that she was 16. And here’s the intitial story in video description.

And on the next day:

And another video with her.

Obviously NOT “standing aside with her father watching the protests” and not 1 kilometre away from protest.
And - father? professor?

Some people were pointing to some inconsistancies in the video itself, but i won’t be posting it here in the sake of avoiding flaming. You can look it up if you want.

All this bullshit may be due to the communication blockade, though.

There’s a media blackout there, you have to give them some leeway with the specifics.

But there is a huge difference between a sniper picking up individual targets unseen and from high ground and a drive-by motorcycle driver.

Also, I was following the entire situation for 4 days now, and wide coverage by such sources as CNN and Fox news and the way the cover it worry me a lot.
Not that I’m trying to prove anything, but I am afraid it’s the beginning of the beginning.

What do you think you’re proving here, ODB?

He’s either playing devil’s advocate or trying to prove that the Mousavi movement is wrong. I’m hoping it’s the former.

learn 2 read.

just thinking out loud, is that prohibited?

“learn 2 read” my ass, you added that 5 minutes after I posted.

How the fuck do you know what exactly I edited at 16: 28? Maybe it was grammar?
I added the last bit way before that.
And when I post, I don’t see any of the subsequent posts until I hit F5, which I didn’t do.

Want to start flaming over this? Don’t.

Fair enough…But don’t think you can just pull the wool over my eyes anytime you like.

Actually there is no evidence that Mousavi is any better than the current pres. Either way, the president is merely a puppet of the Ayatollah who is installed by a council of clerics. If the people really wanted freedom they would be protesting the REAL leaders instead of supporting another radical fundamentalist. So who was it that threatened them if they didn’t stop protesting…oh yeah it was the Ayatollah.
