2009 Iran Election and protest

So the shit seems to have hit the fan majorly in Iran, with massive protests and riots after the Elections seemed to have been rigged so that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won. It’s pretty clear with hundreds of thousands of people taking to the streets to protest he didn’t win.

Really interesting and amazing to see everything unfolding on Twitter after the govt tried to block most of the social media sites and blocked SMS, MMS and general phone coverage. People managed to find proxies and what not to allow people to use Twitter, and although it’s illegal, thankfully a lot of Iranians have satellite dishes that they are trying to use.

Here are some links to Twitter feeds and a bunch of news articles.

The first E-Revolution.

I’m proud of the Iranians that aren’t putting up with their shitty leadership anymore

Unfortunately, I don’t think this will change anything and even if it does there’s no guarantee that it will be a change for the better.

They finally woke up and saw the shit their president was making. He’s not the smartest person on earth, for sure. Good to see the population is taking action but it’s also a shame to see the treatment they are getting for that…

In our country we had a revolution like 30 years ago because people couldn’t stand our government’s shit any more. We go out of a dictatorship but nowadays democracy made us end up with some numb nuts as the prime minister.

The link above is pretty damning, this:

Rigged bscly :fffuuu:

That ain’t good…

One of my best friends ( and father of my gurlfriend ) was born in Iran.
I’ve been telling him that the vote has most likely been manipulated… This screenshot is gonna be interessting for him.

Even with the recount of votes, it won’t change anything. In Iran, it’s not the people who choose their prime minister but a restricted group around the “Spiritual Leader”. But I hope they’ll be able to make the difference this time and start being heard…

the spiritual leader told them to recount

Yeah it’s pretty big when the highest ranking spiritual leader says it was bollocks.

Saw it on local news yesterday, they even did an interview with a Canadian proxy company that was running a few sites specifically for Iranians to be able to access twitter and youtube.

For the US, full scale revolution in Iran is good. We may finally see some serious reform considering most of the rioters are students who want freedom in general.

That being said, the chances that the above will happen are slim. Ahmadinejad will be sure to counter this riot with some military force, and this may very well turn into the next Tianaman Square. Even if Mousavi DOES win, the guy’s not exactly a saint. Sure he’s better than Ahmadinajad, anyone is, but he’s still up there with Hitler and Mussolini.

Its interesting that when hundreds of thousands of people protest something in Iran, its a huge news story here in the US, and evidence of a popular revolt thats shaking the foundations of the country - but when hundreds of thousands of Americans protested the war, it was depicted in the news as a fringe movement and given hardly any air time.

Anyway heres some intesting statistical analysis of the Iranian elections by an American election pollster:

Conan did a pretty good job covering the two candidates

Dunno Jambo, but I still remain sceptic about ALL that shit in the medias.
For me, this whole long Iranian story still looks as a usual clever CIA set up.

But even then, it’s hard not to notice that this shit was rigged.

I don’t get it.

When someone says the elections in Iran were rigged, everyone jumps on the band wagon and agrees. But when someone says the American, canadian, or any other western or european elections could have been rigged, they’re called conspiracy theorists.

Love the double standard.

Fixed… if Al Gore and Pat Buchanan had both publicly stated that the 2000 election was rigged, you’d have seen a similar reaction.

EDIT: No I meant the 2004 election.

Supporters Ahmadinejad opened fire last night on the protesters. Not pretty.

No more spontaneous Ron Paul love, huh? Either way, it doesn’t matter what specific election you “meant,” my point is that the reason people are taking accusations of election fraud in Iran seriously is that the accusations come from sources which can be considered serious or reliable. I made an analogy to the 2000 election in order to make my point more clear, but apparently it backfired. Pretend I said
“if John Kerry and Michael Badnarik had both publicly stated that the 2004 election was rigged, you’d have seen a similar reaction.”

HAY GUISE SUM GUY ONE A RIGD ELECHUN AND NAOW EVERTHING IZ TEH SAYM AS IT WAS B4 LOL!!!1!!
