1:35 scale plastic armour models

Hi, here are a couple of 1:35 scale A.F.V. models that I have built. Are there any other model makers here?

That’s pretty awesome. If you actually made that good on you mate.

Hey man, im also building models! Glad to see there are more of them

Thanks! However, I’m not sure I know how to prove that they are indeed my own work. The only thing I can suggest is that you visit my two blogs at https://armourmodels.blogspot.com and https://newishlifeinscotland.blogspot.com

@ ashton93, yes, it is always good to meet like minded people who share the same hobby!

Cool, I used to love building these things. Makes me want to break out the box of paints and glue and finish the kits I started years ago.

I have to say I like the first picture more with the subtle weathering on the tread skirts; the Abrams looks cleaner and needs some grime around the panel lines, methinks…

God, I wish I could paint that good

@ RabidMonkey; thanks, I’ll admit, I’m too lazy to weather my models, the first one is one of only two so far that I have weathered. The second one, I agree, is too clean! One of these days, I’ll get round to weathering more of my models. If and when I do, I’ll post some more pictures.

@ Bad DOg; thanks, I find painting my models quite easy, even though I use a paint brush and not an airbrush. I’ve always found that I can get just as good a finish hand painting as anyone else does airbrushing.

This is a small stack of unbuilt models… Not all are mine; I still build with my dad. Still learning a lot of things, techniques and detail work. I get very focused on details, so with my work you tend to see a lot of weathering and such. If you guys want I can upload a few of my WIP and complete models.

Currently in progress are a B17 kit from Revell, A Bolton Paul Defiant from Airfix. As a result of these two models, I am never buying a kit from either again. These are my main models at this time, but I have a few others lying around unfinished, but not having worked on them in a while I don’t recall what they are or from whom.

Please also note, the halftrack in the top left is a 2D puzzle, to complete the wall. It will almost no doubt be replaced with another kit sooner or later…

I’m always interested in seeing other people’s work, so yes please for pictures of your models!

The top picture of my Challenger 1 MBT was an exercise in how much extra detail I could scratchbuild myself, without buying any after market detail sets. I added various bits of wire for headlights and searchlights, added covers for the stowage bin and basket on the turret and I also made the armoured cover on the commander’s sight operable. Unfortunately, what with all my various house moves, the sight cover got snapped off and lost.

im gonna upload some too. just built one once, guess it took too long so i lost intrest in doing another one for a while. just need to find a camera!

Here you go:

it’s 1:15 btw.

Here’s a couple more pictures of some of my models, again, neither have been weathered as I’m too lazy to do it!

Whoa, that’s nice. You shouldn’t stop; you got skillz.
Edit: Ninja’d by half an hour; I was talkin’ to the guy above xD

Now, as you may have noticed, I don’t really do armour; I got planes. Hope you don’t mind ^^

This is the Bolton Paul Defiant, courtesy of Airfix. It doesn’t really fit together too well… By which I mean at all. You can see I’ve handpainted the turret, more or less accurate to the real thing. I got a bit heavy-handed towards the end though; didn’t really have the patience for it by that point. The quality (or lack of) of the kit was putting me off. The B17’s a whole 'nother story, but once I finish that I’ll see if I can get one from the better manufacturers, like Academy, Trumpeter, Hasegawa, Tamiya…

I actually have numerous Models (yes, I have paper and plastic  ) I’ve recently Stopped due to Price of paints and the price of the models themselves not to mention the local Hobby store closing (:’(). One of my more recent builds, an A-10 Warthog jet, is currently sitting in my trash can due to a few… shall I say… accidents(landing gear broke off, later little bro removed the canopy, my accidentally stepping on it was the final nail in the coffin).
I do have a completed Boeing B-17 Bomber Craft sitting in almost complete condition on my Dresser (only part I’m missing is one of the side guns, accidentally pushed it in) let me tell you, the B-17 is one big mother f----er

Tell ya what, she’s even bigger in person…

Post some German steel (not mine).

Topic Anyone?

And yes, the B17 is big. But we’ve got a few Cats which are bigger in wingspan, and a B24, also bigger…

@ m4rek I like the paint job on that gun turret, as for Airfix, the older models are definately showing their age, but the newer toolings are looking quite good, it seems as though the quality of Airfix has improved somewhat since they were rescued by Hornby.

@ bigfan421 I’ve seen some of your papercraft models elsewhere on these forums, they look really good. Years ago, I had a go at making a working papercraft clock, but I lost patience with it, having to cut out all the teeth on the gears!

I got screwed on the B17 kit I bought… New box, latest art. Started working on it, found that the tooling was really poor. I looked around a little and found, to my horror, the date. 1989.

Unfortunately, they do seem to be just re-boxing a lot of their models as well as releasing some new toolings. On the other hand, some of their latest releases have had some rave reviews, like their new 1:24 Mosquito kit. I’ve seen pictures of some of the sprues and it does look the business. But Airfix do still have quite a long way to go before they match the quality of the Far East kit manufacturers.

Oops, I’ve gone a bit off topic!

Well, I think we should broaden our (official) topic to include non-armour kits; including the construction and quality, and general discussion thereof. Real-world armour is far beyond the topic though.
