I am doing a let’s play of the mod and I don’t know wether I am allowed to monetize it or not.
Do I have to ask the modders or Valve?
Thanks

What do you mean? Nobody’s going to stop you from asking for donations, at least as far as I know.
No one’s stopping you but it would be a dick move to make money from something the devs themselves aren’t allowed to make profit off.
^.
I agree, but if shame was a factor in this dude’s decisions he wouldn’t be trying to monetize a shitty let’s play of Black Mesa in the first place.
I love this mod and I would donate if I would be allowed to do. AND I was only asking.
Christopher Odd made a let’s play “Black mesa” and AFAIK he has advertisements on his videos.
You can resolve your moral concerns in this way:
Did you love BM?
If yes, it means that you loved also its soundtrack,
hence you wanna donate money to the guy who made it
It’s entirely possible to enjoy the game and hate the soundtrack. I’ve seen a few people who didn’t like it.
I think it’s amazing, though.
I have played Black Mesa dozens of times. I have played the Black Mesa soundtrack hundreds of times. I believe it is in the cd tray right now in my car as a matter of fact.
Joel Nielsen is my hero.
The idea would be that the content of the Let’s Play as in his particular play through and commentary is what people are watching on youtube not necessarily the game. That being said I find that most LPs are terrible and you shouldn’t even bother trying to make revenue with it. This is my advice.
I can’t understand how people can hate the soundtrack, Joel Nielsen made an awesome job!
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
