I’m not gonna include any of the Half life series or anything made by Valve because they are already in my favorites. Also I will not include any present games because there are too many to choose from, so I will only include my favories from the past.
- Secret of Mana -(SNES)
- Banjo Kazooie -(N64)
- Star Wars: Rogue Squadron -(N64)
Pure Awesomeness
- Half Life 2 (plus episodes)
- Team Fortress 2
- Portal
After considering all the games I own (102) and finally coming down to this decision I think I like Valve a little bit too much…
- Halo 2 and 3 (I can’t decide)
- Halo 1
I’m such a Halo fanboy…
1. Half life 2 & Episodes (in the order of 2,0,1)
half life 2 the poor and overdone concept of aliens annexing earth that hl1 founded, and made it into one of my favorite story telling experiences of all time. Its no Stephen king novel but its subtle gestures and attachment to the trials of freeman (by actually playing through them) add complexity and mystery.
hl2 showed the true strengths on game story telling as opposed to other contemporary mediums (ie movies, not including novels), by investing 20 hours in a single section of a plot line the play feels like that have a vested part of the story
Bioshock
A great and original setting, that balanced creepiness perfectly. this game innovated in more ways an entire year worth of games do (years when valve doesn’t release anything). It rethought how narratives and games could be integrated just like hl2.
its second on my list because it was second to the punch, and had somewhat flawed combat.
Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl
I’ve never had such a hard time getting into a game as i did with s.t.a.l.k.er but it was way worth it, this game develops the best atmosphere I’ve ever seen, and makes for good firefights.
they are all single-player fps, two of them are fps-rpg hybrids (there have been alot of good hybrids: deus ex, fallout 3, mass effect, bioshock, stalker) but I have also really enjoyed multilayer games, in particular: rtses. (C&C ftw)
TF2, Fallout 3, GTA4
Yes, I’m reviving a long dead thread, simply because I didn’t get to participate in it.
Well here are my top three overall favorites:
1. Perfect Dark ~ N64/360
A well rounded package with excellent visuals for it’s time and VO that doesn’t suck. PD defined multiplayer shooters for me, as I spent hours splitting the screen with my younger brother against 8 other bots. This was the first game that I played that truly allowed me to enjoy a multiplayer component of a game by myself. No other game has succeeded in even matching the options that were available in PD’s multiplayer, especially with bots. The 360 port made my favorite game even better by improving the controls and tightening up the textures. Too bad you can’t find any open games online.
2. Super Smash Bros. Brawl ~ Wii
A Nintendo fanboy’s dream come true. Brings together an insane amount of characters and environments from amongst their many franchises into one complete package. It has a solid single player campaign with some awesome cutscenes, but the multiplayer focus is where the game truly shines. The amount of content in this game alone is ridiculous, with stunning visuals to boot. Always a great party game. Period.
3. Counter Strike: Source ~ PC
At the time I acquired CS: S, I didn’t exactly have my own internet connection, which in turn made this game my go-to multiplayer bot game. I lived and breathed Condition Zero’s offline bot matches, so the visual upgrades certainly had a huge impact. Later when I actually started paying for internet, I discovered custom maps and weapon skins, which extended the life of the game I had been playing since its inception. I still have good times taking my computer to my brother’s place, and linking up just to play some good old CS:Source.
PC: Sam & Max Series, Most Valve Games, and Most Bethesda Games
PS3: Heavy Rain, Metal Gear Solid 4, Grand Theft Auto IV
HL, HL2, HL3
don’t care if HL3 isn’t out yet, it will be favorite number 3…basta
