Max Payne was amazing in my opinion. It all had this cinematic feel that was just swell to be a part of. And everything made Max feel more…alive, realistic, most natably in the gameplay.
Things like diving onto the floor and spraying from the ground were useful additions that really put you in the action. The little comments Max made when picking up pills were entertaining. I LOVED how he would hold the second weapon in his hands all the time. YES.
VO work was tremendous. Writing was superb (Rockstar can inject humor into the most twisted stories). Cutscenes felt directed…in a very good way. And the seamless transition from gameplay to cutscene was really cool.
And that’s the other thing…this instalment had gameplay variance. MP1 and 2 were about giving you guns and giving you enemies. MP3 had you sniping from afar, sneaking at night, sauntering around with your arm half ripped off, etc. Yes, it’s story was very standalone, but thank god, because the new story of Max’s slip into degeneration felt very personal.
But yeah. Prob one of the best games of 2012 thus far.
