WTF is Halo Reach?

I don’t know why I even bothered replying to you in the first place considering you’re so ignorant. Forge and Hammer are just tools for making maps. You argument that they aren’t making their own content is stupid. Most custom maps don’t have custom materials like textures or models anyways. What I mean by it takes more creativity is that the limitations of a weaker system means you must be more creative to achieve outstanding results. Honestly the only reason people insult the “Creativity” of tools is because they themselves are untalented hacks who couldn’t do things when put under limitations. About copying and pasting essays, what if said person copied various sentences from random essays and formed them together to make a cohesive essay on an unrelated topic? Is that not creative? However I really don’t understand your comparison to essays considering they aren’t very creative, and if you deem them to be so I don’t think you have much credibility on the subject of creativity.

and call me the worst troll :stuck_out_tongue:

Okay.

:slight_smile:

Seriously, have you ever even used Hammer?

Since you don’t seem to understand logical arguments, lets try some visuals.
Something made in Forge by a professional/s (a Halo Reach map that comes with the game);

Something made in hammer by a noob/intermediate (me):

Something made in hammer by a highly-skilled non-professional;

And something made in hammer by a highly-skilled professional;

Which look more appealing? Which look more creative? Which would you most want to have in a video game you just spent 60 dollars on?

Surely not the one of yours.

Eww halo wtf really? gay game

IMO mine looks far better than the Forge made map (excluding the parts not actually made in forge such as the background and terrain). And I’m just a noob with little experience, while the forge map was made by professionals.

Wait, is he actually a professional? Sorry to derail this meaningful conversation.

“Technically.”

He doesn’t do it for pay (Hammer), though, if that was the standard we’re going by. So according to that, he is not a professional.

If I remember correctly, the guy making the Dear Esther remake is a professional level designer and has made maps for some well known commercial games.

He worked on Mirror’s Edge. I’m not sure what else.

He’s made no commercial Source game that I’ve heard of.

So what? Does it invalidate his mastery of the tool?

Well, I took professional to mean someone who has at one time or another gotten paid to do mapping work (the blackmesa devs may be professionals by these standards; I didn’t do a background check).

Anyway, on-topic: where is ninja and his ignorance? he was viewing the thread.

hey, you are quite a modest person aren’t you?

Forge limits people creativity by only having a pre-set and limited number of materials.

With Hammer you’re only limited by what the engine can do, as it allows you to put it in your own textures, models, sounds, etc.

That’s what Garth means.

I am incredibly modest; I call myself a noob and I have no illusions about the quality of my work; I don’t think my map is incredibly good, I just think Halo Reach’s map is incredibly shitty.

Your maps decent (especially the lighting,) and that particular HR map isn’t all the good looking.

Haha wow, that Forge map is way better than your little building. It was built with gameplay in mind, so that players can flow around it. They weren’t trying to make it the best looking map ever.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
