Will Black Mesa replace Half Life 1 for you?

blasphemy

If you consider graphics, sounds… the answer is certainly “Yes!”, but we all know that the major challenge of Black Mesa Team is re-creating the original atmosphere. I’m confident it will be a success!

Replace? No. Remind? Yes. They aren’t the same.

A jump in the Past!

If it follows the storyline, considering it will have greatly improved graphics, then yes. Also there is the thing that the old HL1 bugs will be gone, giving way to the new ones from Source, so it will either be a + or a - there.

I think Black Mesa will replace Half-Life for me, sinse it follows it’s basic pattern, while bringing the whole new layer of design and architrcture. But who knows really, we’ll see after release

Replace it no, but I can’t wait to go back to the Half-Life universe and this mod, revamp looks incredible.

I don’t know…

I played the entire Half-Life series(With the exception of Decay and HL: Source) for the first time just last year, in order of when they were each released, and IMO, HL aged pretty well. I actually enjoyed it more than HL2 and Ep1.

I guess I’ll have to play BMS first to decide, but for some reason I get the feeling I’ll play HL1 again at some point in the future.

Nope.

Half-Life 1 just has that charm, and nostalgia. Black Mesa (Source) is a recreation of HL1 with extra parts and changed things. It also can’t replace it because of mods.

Seeing as I’ve never finished playing hl1 nor the source version, yes. Yes it will.

I have been saying this to my friends for years. The reason I feel this way is that HL2 + Episodes is more of a Source Engine Tech demo and less like a game. Half Life is a damn good game.

Yes and no? I may end up liking it more than HL1, but I’ll always remember my initial reaction to various events in the original. I’m just itching to see how BMS looks.

Will Black Mesa replace Half Life 1 for you?

Possibly. Especially depending on how Xen is redone. The nostalgia will be there, but honestly, it will be much better playing the whole series when it’s all pretty much on the same page tech wise. Let the fragging begin.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
