Will Black Mesa replace Half Life 1 for you?

nope. it’s not a “direct port”. The multiplayer maps are different. In my opinion the original HL1 maps where better and there are a few other things that are diffetent from HL1. The MP5 has a stronger recoil for example. Unlike HL2 or HL1. When you fire a whole clip without doing pauses, your view tildes up and down… and thats total crap. another example is the laggy movement. you cant jump through the map smoothly. that really disturbs (I even think it destroys) the complete feeling what HL1 had.

PS: I own HL:S, played HL1 and HL:S and I’m a hardcore hl1 fan… so… please accept that I’m right.

Half-Life - Fantastic FPS with an immense story which paves the way for the sequel.

Half-Life: Source - Same, with ragdoll physics.

Black Mesa - jizz

Well, the multiplayer is Half-Life: Deathmatch: source, so that’s not what I was talking about. The other things you mentioned are byproducts of porting it to source/it being on source…

It will most likely replace Half-Life for me, unfortunately.

I’m a sucker for shiny things, and when you take a piece of silver, give it a shine to reveal it’s gold, of course I’m going to go for the gold and not look back at the silver.

This is the same with Black Mesa, that’s if it’s good of course. Then again, If I’m feeling slightly nostalgic I’ll probably play through it again, or to compare Black Mesa to the original.

Of course

Though, I might become nostalgic again in 5-10 years or so, but BM is like cs 1.6 and source, you just gotta let go of the past when upgrades are available.

Fail.

^This…

…and this^. And the fact that his account was registered before MadMax’s, I believe.

Incidentally, look at this list:

King Max
MadMax
MadMax Reborn
MadMax2

madmax919
Max
Max von Bek
Maxaxle
MaxDeathlore
Maxey
Maxpm
maxsil
Maxter
MaxTheLimit
Morfumax
Supremax
tymaxbeta

Of that list, only the bold ones are MadMax the Stupid, so we even have another madmax registered, though I do’t recall ever seeing any posts from madmax919.

oh please. this is not the thread about who has the most accounts here. leave it at the door.

Half-Life: Source isn’t just a direct port. They had to alter some parts for it to make more sense on the source engine. Like the part after you land in the water from the On a rail Tram. Here they use real floating blue barrels instead of fixed geometry that shifts like it is in HL1. Valve basically was on track but decided to not go any further because it was just supposed to be a quick port. A “quick port” better describes it.

Otherwise they would have to recode most of the game logic and this is exactly what Black-Mesa is all about. So they kept the base HL2 stuff and overlayed HL1 gameplay on top of it.

As for the topic I would very much think of HL1 and Black-Mesa as two separate things. BMS would never replace the original. I don’t see why it has to really.

This.

It depends on what I’m going for. If I’m planning to play through the entire Half Life series, then I’ll probably use Black Mesa in order to have a more consistent feel to the gameplay. However on an individual basis, Black Mesa is simply not going to be HL1.

It’s sorta like comparing Oreo ice cream to Vanilla. Oreo ice cream might be one of the tastiest flavors on earth, but that doesn’t mean I don’t think Vanilla is tasty anymore. they’re both good flavors, just for different reasons.

argh too many spot on metaphors… >.<

They did that because the physics engine in source made that part impossible. The whole point of the source version was to figure out how hard it was to port a Goldsrc game to source with as few changes as possible, but that was a necessary change.

But at this point I think we’re basically saying the same thing in different ways.

I think I will, but I’ll still keep my old HL1 CD.

“Once you go black, you never go back.” :stuck_out_tongue:

SHAT AP you cunter >__>
I thought it was him because he’s a trolling faggot.

Oh yes, it will!
HL1 was a very good and epic game, but Black Mesa is pure perfection!
Not because of the better graphics or better engine, but because of all the little details and the way the modders improved every level, scene and scripted sequence.

wow…kiss devs’ ass much? I’m perfectly willing to accept the possibility that Black Mesa will deliver a perfectly polished plethora of pleasing pieces pertaining to peoples previous PC pastimes, but until you actually PLAY the game, you really should reserve putting your judgment in the past tense form.

:stuck_out_tongue:

Q: Will it?
A: Yes.

What the fuck are you even talking about? Do you know?

Holding any more than one account here is a bannable offence, which is what we were talking about, the bold names on my list are all perma-banned accounts registered by one guy, who some people thought was posting here again under yet another account.

Personally, if Black Mesa is as good as I expect it will be, I’ll probably never boot up the original HL again.

Short, But sweet :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m hoping I can enjoy BM on all the same levels as I did with HL while also enjoying more eye sex.

BTW, what is with all these folks creating ill refute to my name. Max is a name that should be respected as awesome.

oh, if there wouldn’t be any hard fails and i won’t say something like: “no, BMS team, you didn’t understand ‘Half-Life’”(and i don’t think this would happen ,] ),
then the place in my heart for the original one will be shared with the BMS in the ratio of 40:60 (original:blackmesas in percents).

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
