Why does islam lack a sense of humor?

Every humour has its own limit and these limits seem to losen a bit after some time. You couldn’t make a jew joke right after WW2 and I think you still can’t make fun of 9/11. Muslims are aware of that. It’s not like we don’t have any humour at all but when it comes to our religion the limit is reached and our most concern is to maintain this limit. We know that changes take place in a very long time. (Bad luck for Obama trying to change America in only 4 years) We know that a lot changes alter our religion to a bad direction and that’s why it seems like we overreact a little bit if someone makes fun of it. We also don’t investigate in those jokes what is the reason why we react the same way everytime. eg: That one Southpark episode wasn’t even that bad. It wasn’t even insulting Mohammad(sav) but I couldn’t here the end morale so I don’t really know. The episode even explains a little bit of what I just said. (a force that keeps Mohammed away from jokes)

I’m just wondering, if showing the image of Mohammed is such a rage inducing act, how does anybody even know what he looks like? Surely some instances of showing his image are tolerated if people know what he looks like so well.

HAHA. There are no pictures of Mohammed. There never was and never will be. Every picture that is available is a lie and therefore an insult on Islam.

Ive seen a picture of him. Its allowed to have pictures of him but not insulting pictures like that drawed pic of him being a terrorist the danish man that made it is just a idiot i mean seriously we don’t make fun of the christian religion so why does he make fun of ours?.

Nope. not true.

It is true believe it or not.

In 100 years it won’t matter if there are hundreds of different pictures of him where he looks different everytime and could be anyone you can see on the street and then end up as Mohammedon, [COLOR=‘black’]just like Raptor Jesus

Simple. The South Park creators (that’s who, I’m assuming, to whom you are referring) make fun of everyone and everything. That’s their shtick; their thing. They make fun of Judaism, they make fun of Christianity, they make fun of Scientology, they make fun of atheists, they make fun of Democrats, they make fun of Republicans…any group you could POSSIBLY imagine, they’ve probably made fun of at one time or another.

Why is Islam right out?

I didn’t mean south park i mean the danish man that drawed a picture of the prophet as a terrorist.

EDIT: I know south park is making fun of everyone and everything i also watch it.

Ah.

Have you seen what else the Danish cartoonist has done? Or is he entirely represented by the cartoon(s) of Mohammed?

It may be because Muslims find the depiction of the prophet more insulting than Christians do of depictions of Jesus. It’s a bit narrow minded to expect an entire religion to conform to your definition of humour.

If you want to see intolerance by a group of people with a supposed sense of humour, go watch Russell Brand bomb at the MTV awards when he started taking the piss out of things Americans hold dear.

Denmark, Sweden, Saudi Arabia, Holland, Turkey, Germany, Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Iraq, Iran, Indonesia and Malaysia just to name a few

I find plenty of things personally insulting, but I have a sense of humor, I can take a good ribbing and I can tell when someone is being mean spirited.
Those that do protest may be small, like 70,000 small in Denmark, but people died all over the world in those protests. Unlike when the WBC protested at comiccon, for their belief that comic books are worshiping false idols.

The Difference there is that other Christian groups come out and actively say that what the WBC is doing is unequivocally wrong, and not part of the faith, anti-Jesus ect. The best that seems to come out of the islamic world is “It is not right to threaten anyone but I can understand why they are doing this” which in reality ends up being a tacit agreement.

Why must it be an insult or a lie? In any form? What about images that were created before the edict about his image was made?

Who called for the death of Russel Brand?

And to make this point again, this thread came out of watching different reactions of different groups who worship the same god (desert patriarch of Abraham)
react to the humor of Trey Parker and Matt Stone and how WILDLY different they were.

That’s not every country in the world. I’m saying that, if it was as big a deal as you’re trying to make it out to be, every country, including the United States, would have their equivalent to “million man marches”. There are between 1-7 million Muslims in the United States. If they all felt this way about images of Mohammed, then you’d see a GINORMOUS 1-7 million man march.

I’m looking for the BILLION MAN MARCH all over the world. Where is it? (Note: A billion people is about three times the population of the United States.)

Then you haven’t been paying attention. Muslims at large have unequivocally come out against violence, saying that what they’re doing is wrong. How is it “tacit agreement” to condemn violence?

Muslims in America live in fear of persecution, profiling or that the the charity they donated to might give money to a terrorist group. Fear is what has kept Muslims in America quiet after 9/11. That fear makes many of them feel like second class citizens.
Also, can I get a quote of a single Islamic leader (sunni or shia) who said the depictions of Mohamed in Southpark are ok and the protests against it were wrong, or un-islamic, or a bad direction for the faith? Maybe I 'm not paying enough attention. I will stop posting in this thread if I get one and start the scientology version.

Here’s a story about Brand.

Also, I know for a fact the UK has a right to protest, and I assume the American constitution’s right to free speech covers protest as well.

Do they have to specifically denounce the calls for violence against the creators of South Park…or can it just be denouncing calls for violence period?

@m2k, I had no idea Brand got death threats, and how many people died in the resulting protests?
@dsg, Violence over the portrayal of the images of Mohamed, south park or otherwise.
BTW, southpark has been kinder and more respectful to islam that any other faith on their show

By the way, check this:

“Instead of reacting negatively to the bigoted call to support “Draw Muhammad Day,” American Muslims – and Muslims worldwide – should use that and every other day as an opportunity to reach out to people of other faiths and beliefs to build bridges of understanding and respect.”

Sounds, to me, that they’re against violence against Matt Stone and Trey Parker and the creators of “Draw Muhammad Day” and, instead, want to use it as a teaching opportunity and an opportunity to “build bridges of understanding and respect.”

Now, what do you think about that?

@JW how many died because of South Park protests? And would you have the rights of Muslims to protest removed?

The Catholic church stood by and offered no word of objection as 140,000 people lost their lives in the ethnic cleansing of the Yugoslav wars.

Roman Catholic authorities in Rwanda again offered no objection in the 1994 genocide, and the clergy did not protect civilians in many cases. Furthermore, several members of the clergy have been convicted by the International Criminal Court for their roles in the genocide. Death toll: 800,000

How far do you think a funny cartoon about Jesus would have got you in Rwanda in 1994? Maybe the Lord’s Resistance Army of Uganda would have found it funny? It might have put them off their campaign of rape, mutilation and killing. Perhaps it would have gone down well in a pub on Falls Road in Belfast in the 1970s? Maybe they could have painted it on a paving slab before they dropped it through some squaddie’s head.

Are all Christians lacking a sense of humour then? No, of course not. You just seem to have a very short memory or a selective understanding of the state of the world. The press are victimising Islam, you don’t need to as well
