All my emails to Lulzsec to get Blackmesa “released” asap have so far resulted in nothing.
Oh, cool, I now have a religion.
It’s only been about 7 years and on Wired Magazine’s Vaporware of the year list in 2009 and again in 2010. What are you complaining about??
We don’t complain. Some people just need priorities in life.
Well one would think that after 7 years at least the maps wouldve been finished. The core gameplay is already built in.Aside from maps you have coding,model/skins/voice acting, scripting, and animations. The pictures below are from another source mod,ive managed to do this in less than 6 months in my free time “2 hours a week” so i couldve easily been done with the maps…like 2 years ago lol.I think my work vouches for my statement. All BS aside…this mod isnt done “yet” and it shouldve been. How can one justify " in their free time" after 7 years of not being released. Each of you must have like 10 kids,2 wives, and be handicap to justify not finishing this mod.Thats why i say its DEAD-ish.Seriously, if not you have a 5 man team at best!
Well, the number of active developers is perhaps too small yes, it seems that there are very few anyway.
Although on the other hand, if every dev had his own level to design, it would be harder to put the levels at par with each other. There would always be one who puts too much effort in one level compared to other devs’ levels.
I believe that is part of the development timeline 2009-2011: the levels were perhaps considered “finished” but not quite on par with each other. I believe that’s what they’ve done since: make sure no level looks bleak compared to another. I don’t think it’s some unlimited DNF scenario to keep getting better overall graphics, just getting a balanced game design-wise.
Everyone’s frustrated with the long development time.
However, the only thing we can do is wait.
And yes, my signature looks dumb, but it’s the closest to a progress update in 1,5 years, how sad is that
Don’t do it Carnage; it’s not worth being reasonable around here.
They probably are, for the most part. The devil, of course, will be in the details.
A statement which you not only have 0 authority to make, but which may well be untrue, given how much they’ve added to the core gameplay of Half Life 2.
Indeed you do, and many of those things are hugely complex, especially coding, which I don’t believe the team had for much of the oft quoted ‘7 years’.
I’d more than like to play it to see if it compares. Where can I download it, perchance?
Here’s a wild, out of the blue thought: They don’t have to justify it to you. I mean seriously, why on earth would they have to justify anything to you? You didn’t pay them, get promised anything, or did anything more onerous than click a few buttons and sign up to the website to get to this point. If you’d toiled for a thousand hours making a map, only to have the project shut down, then yes, you could probably ask for a justification for the failure. But what have you contributed to this mod that would make any more entitled to a justification than, say, the turd I stepped in on the way home today?
Seriously, if you’re going to take advantage of someone’s work (read: play it) without paying for it, maybe you should consider shutting the fuck up and taking it like it is. So what if they don’t make progress updates? They could’ve never made the mod in the first place and your life wouldn’t be substantially worse off, would it?
Probably only as sad as you calling out that their lack of updates is sad, given that its a fan made modification for a computer game.
Perhaps but we’re all talking in a forum about a computer game here, so yes, emotions like disappointment and excitement is something i thought we all experience now and then when it comes to this computer game. Aren’t we all sad then to feel excitement over a computer game?
And it doesn’t actually matter if it’s fan made or not. A dead twitter link for recent updates on any homepage is also sad (funny, but sad). Sad is sad.
Yes, i am aware of that: I actually meant every level including design + gameplay + effects + … were perhaps not up to par with other levels, so that one level did look and play bleak compared to another, so that’s probably part of what’s being done since 2009.
I was pointing out to C@rnage that if the dev team was bigger, it might not necessarily be faster to accomplish all that.
While your map looks fine I wouldn’t say it can compare to the size of the maps they are making for BMS. Of course, there may well be much to your map that I can’t see.
That looks like everything there is, no skybox or any other areas.
Well I started with Wolfenstein when it came out so long ago I don’t remember. I then played a few others; Marathon, Doom etc. When HalfLife came along I thought oh my got I can’t believe this came. I just played it through again two months ago. Still more fun than the new scripted, graphic cinematic crap their putting out now. I’ve played them all and nothing really stacks up to the original halflife. That is why several years ago I saw information on Planet HalfLife about this upgrade. I have been waiting I think for 4 years. I would have discontinued Planet HalfLife by now, but I have kept it so I wouldn’t miss your announcement. I can’t hardly wait much longer. I am 59 years old and could die any day. For gods sake please finish!!!
Misunderstood
59 years old…first post…im stunned!
Welcome to the forums and enjoy the wait…ive been lurking since the beginning.
Did you hear that devs? If you don’t finish the mod before this guy dies, that’s on your conscience!
Every forum has a troll…er 2.Trolling on the BMS forums isnt exactly contributing to the mod either there Loony! I am in no way taking anything away from the people who’ve contributed their time to work on this mod.Even in the mod community there is such a thing called “Etiquette” and from what Ive seen there is the lack of.No…they dont owe me anything,I didnt pay them anything, but from my perspective there are certain transparent rules that need to be maintained when creating a mod of this stature. One of those would be keeping up to date with your community “Frequently”.I spoke in reference to the whole community “aside from you…and your precious turd” when i mentioned justification.Speaking of justification…stop wasting the rest of the population’s fresh oxygen! You mad?
Long time lurker here…something I don’t quite understand about people who beg and plea for the mod to be released…
If Black Mesa is never released it is not the end of the world…no one is asking you to follow it and as a matter of fact even if the developers some how chase away all its followers here on the forum I guarantee you when it does come out thousands of others are going to be drawn to it like flies…and how could they not?
There are other great games and mods to be found…just sayin
It’s too good not to be released
Long time lurking doesn’t mean shit, same for us.
Can you direct me to the part where I said it meant something? Please check your eyes. lol
You were using that little tidbit as a qualifying statement. I mean, why include it at all if it were superfluous, as you suggest?
