What happened to not releasing the MOD until it's perfect?

I certainly don’t recall the developers ever saying that the mod was being delayed until it was perfect. Stop focusing on whatever implications you’re drawing from that, it just sounds like you’re projecting your frustration with the development process.

No it won’t. It will just be HL source with high res textures.

I’m not dismissing what that fellow has done, but that is a far stretch from all the hard work.

I disagree.

I think you missed my point. My whole intention of porting the Xen levels (it’s a STRAIGHT PORT, which means virtually everything is literally copy+paste) was to get a laugh at how crappy the Half-Life world low-poly geometry/low-res textures were in juxtaposition with the Black Mesa weapons and NPCs.

I guess I didn’t do a good enough job at crappifying it if people seem to misread my intention. :frowning:

So I strongly suggest you to make the “Straight Port” thingy more clear on your port thread. To avoid future misinterpretations, you know…

Don’t sell yourself short, it’s the same engine. Add in some high res textures and dynamic lighting you pretty much have yourself a black mesa level.

have you even played BM? :retard:

Have you even seen the headcrab chamber in Questionable Ethics?

Except no. All of my no. The geometry is still insanely blocky, and a simple retexture wouldn’t bring it to be “just like Black Mesa.” The Black Mesa devs are reimagining Xen, that’s why it’s taking longer. It’s a terrible point. And his Gonarch was a brush based, and off of something the devs did looooong ago.
It’s funny, a lot of his work is based around what he has from Black Mesa to work with.

Why? Black Mesa’s out, why would you want yet another remake? I’d welcome people trying to reimagine Half-Life again, but someone else’s attempts are entirely irrelevant to Black Mesa. As I said before, they’re bringing it to Source, not 2012. If someone else wants to try reimagine Half-Life and bring it to 2012 in a way Black Mesa didn’t and isn’t Simply Half-Life with hires textures that’s their business, and it doesn’t matter here.

Again, I wish those lucky bastards luck with that, but it doesn’t matter here. Half-Life has almost all of it’s glory and that bastards almost 14. Black Mesa came out just a month ago, isn’t supposed to be top of the line, and you think it matter whether someone else will redo it in the future? All I can say about that, if I may speak freely, is who the hell gives a fuck? I don’t think Valve batted an eye at thinking someone might remake Half-Life: Source when they released it along with the Source SDK. The Black Mesa team released an amazing game, and they’re supposed to worry about the (highly unlikely) possibility that someone else will go and do it, too?

So yeah, unless you bring up another ridiculous point so ludicrous that the impulse to respond beats me, I think I’m done here, as it’s clear you won’t listen to reason. I absolutely hate to resort to this old, overused response, but it fits too perfectly: If you think it’s all so easy, I suggest you try taking a crack at it at least, yourself, and prove what you say. Designing levels, programming, modeling, 2D art, voice work, animation, managing 40 people, writing, etc. is not easy and takes time.

Don’t state the truth, you will be told to set the difficulty to Easy or less than that.

While i get your point, please don’t bother us with that AGAIN. Not bitching or anything, but we’ve been all through this in the beginning of the thread, ok ? I’ll admit that the Source AI isn’t state of the art, even if the Devs improved it (and they improved it hell a lot !), but you only have this AI and if your tactic doesn’t work on hard, change it, change the conditions (cvars!) or change the difficulty. Simple as that. Or you can programm your own AI if you wish. Just my 2 cents…

If you go to the tweaking thread, you can find Npc values you can change to make them similar to the old AI. That’s what I did anyway.

Since I’m in a mood, I’m gonna admit to having briefly skimmed the previous four pages in disinterest and am reacting strictly from the title.

Don’t bite the hand the feeds. Because a game that’s free to anyone who owns the internet, albeit a temporarily incomplete one, is still better than most of the things I’ve shelled actual cash for on Steam.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
