What ever happend to Sierra?

Back in the late 80’s and all through the 90’s sierra was a big game industrial power, we used to be able to become a king in kings quest, arrest bad gus in police quest, and be able to laugh with Larry, WHAT HAPPEND!!!:[, sierra just disappered off of the face of the earth!!

P.S yes there was this thread on the old fourm

people started playing FPS games

Sierra never, ever made games.

They just publish them.

I ate them.

Delicious but a tad cheap.

Closed, and then bought up by Activision-Blizzard.

[Edit]: As Collision said below me, I mean Vivendi Universal.

You mean, Vivendi Universal?

I could’ve sworn we had another thread on this.

Way to read the first post.

Quite right dear sir.

Though Vivendi is now owned by Acti-Blizz

Ah yes, I remember Sierra. They published many things we all know and love.

Johnny Castaway

Half Life

I think somewhere there is a link that has a cache of all the old half life forums on sierra. :s cratches her head:

And then of course there is… hm. Well… we could never forget… er. ok. Um alright perhaps there is only two things I remember them for. :s hrug:

Sierra were evil little buggers at times, though. They sold Valve games to internet cafes without Valve’s consent, and then tried to sue them for HL’s Intelectual rights when Valve objected.

Yes, but PRE-Valve and early 90’s they made me a happy kid

Oh wow!

I never knew about that, thank goodness it’s dead now. :zip:

Wikipedia version of the incident.
I like my version better. Less fallout against Valve.

Sierra published “Timeshift”: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TimeShift

Of course, it’s your generic FPS with a man in power armor. There’s time travel involved as well of course. It was a mediocre game at best. The time travel abilities weren’t as good as they could have been, combat was weak, and the ending left something to be desired.

i hate vinvendi for buying them

lol, what about Electronics Arts in the 80s and early 90s? Amazing that Deluxe Paint software they made for the Amiga.

So Sierra never actually made anything? Didn’t they even own any developer companies?

EA at least played both sides. Guess that’s why they still stick around.

Vivendi ruined tribes

They were taken out back and shot.Which,is my interpretation of what really happened.

In 2008, Sierra was closed down for possible future sale.

THEY DEAD

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
