What can the community do?

As the community projects are now getting on a bit, is there something the community can help with at the stage you guys are at? Things like:

-Specific discussion topics
-Particular gameplay aspects
-etc

This question is by no means a way to get updates indirectly, but to see how the fans can keep contributing (on top of the wiki). Since there has been a lot of trolling and angst on the forums lately, it could be a good way to get some more interesting conversations going. Input from the devs could be very constructive here «wink wink»

Edit: I have asked this question in a couple of places but got no answer (either positive feedback or have been flamed). I don’t post much but i try to make them count.

Yeah, we are most certainly willing to help however we can to get this out the door. I support this.

As do I… however organising some kind of community input would possibly make it actually take longer at this stage.

I dont know that there really is anything new that the community can do at this late stage of the game. Suggestions are always welcome, ideas are always welcome. But it doesnt take a genius to realize that there DOES come a point where even the best of suggestions are less and less able to be implemented. Heck, even if Gabe Newell himself actually applied to join the team, would it really make sense to stop production in order to get a new guy up to speed on how the team works, what is expected, what time frames are used and even how the team communicates their goals, objectives and targets?

It is hard at this late stage in the game (pardon the pun) to try to come up with new community projects, ideas on how to advertise, or ways to support your favorite mod, and even in other cases… accept a new talent on the team.

The general sense I get from the team as a peon outsider is that no one wants to shoot an idea down, but the time crunch and project crunch make a lot of things difficult to take advantage of.

Does any of that make sense?

EDIT: Thanks for the input Catz, I had a feeling that we would get that kind of answer but it was worth a try. Maybe some good ideas can still come out of this thread that could add something extra cool and easy to implement at this stage!

@ Xappy Good point. However, just asking the community their input on a particular problem doesn’t force the developers to act upon what comes out of the discussion.

How can we give some input for the mod that doesn’t require the devs to organize a structure to support it?

Yup, the Community Project section is totally shut down at this point. They don’t need much from us loyal, trusting fans anymore.

Put it this way, everything that could be said has already been said in the past, and it’s kind of redundant trying to suggest anything this late in the project. Over the years, there would definitely have been some community suggestions implemented, though. All I can think of is spreading the word about the mod, and to keep submitting things to the community projects, which are looking kind of dead right now.

I can say new shit, look: I… um, want the mod team… to make the tram be able to go faster than 3 levels… Oh shit we talked about this before… fuck, oh whatever man… being original is for losers. :meh:

go grab the staff some coffee

Just be careful not to bend over, they might grab your ass :expressionless:

PILLZ HERE! [COLOR=‘DimGray’]/What Happens When Louis Gets His Pillz

here you go: ( )) ( )) and here’s the coffee: c[] and here’s something to smoke: (((((((_________( ) - note: these are magic items who are unlimited and are never empty. i hope that’s the right equipment you guys need 'cause they will always refill your life and mana for unlimited time

How about a competition for creating a nice big graphic for the homepage on release?

Mind you, that’s dumb because you guys have access to new media that would make the whole thing more exciting to look at.

“OMG, its released! Gonna download now! Oh man, the button is surrounded by Xen media. Dear God, there’s the garg and he’s fighting soldiers.”

Naow life makes sense.

Call amberlamps.

Might? You make it sound like there is a chance they won’t grab your ass.

grabbing of arses is always a fun past time. You know, that dvd art thing is kinda dead, yet I would think that would be kinda important once released. Do we need to sticky that or what? Community projects can be self imposed, and I do believe that one is one of them.

I have to say Catz, I’m aware that you are American but more recently I have noticed that in your posts, you use words and spellings that make you sound like a Brit.

…what gives? :stuck_out_tongue:

Well… I am also a Christian woman that sometimes lets a bad word slip once in a while. (My potty mouth gets the best of me.) So I try to at least use less offensive versions of certain words.

Awww
