Webhosting

My mother has asked me to to make her a website for her photographs.
What webhost do you recommend I use (non-free is fine).
bear in mind, it won’t have many hits, so bandwidth isn’t too much of a problem.

Looks at Hubi

Seriously I don’t think it matters much. As long as you have a good PHP5*/mySQL support, they don’t add a huge Banner like iFrance does and it does not costs you about 30 bucks eahc month it’ll be okay

*or any latest version. I don’t know really it makes ages since I made something in xHTML.

You can host if from your house with apache, all you really need to do is unblock port 80 and get a free domain from no-ip.com

here’s an example, it’s not really an http host but it’s hosted at my house (just don’t DDoS me please) :stuck_out_tongue:

https://serchan.servehttp.com:5800/

bigdaddy, yahoo. I hear 1&1 is shit, don’t be temped by their super low prices.

And sersoft, oh, you’re fucked now.

Hey as I said the server is my PC, so there’s nothing of value that can be lost and I can always reset my IP or close the server :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s why I think a home server is better than paid service, all you wanna do is share photos anyway, might aswell use photobucket.com.

I take it this is for you mother’s business?

Go Daddy is okay for how cheap it is. If you’re mom has asked you to make a website and you don’t know which hosts to use then you’re probably not talking anything fancy right? No offense intended, it’s just that a polished webmaster would know good hosts.

Yes, I would be more then happy to have you as a client with me over at DewPixel (www.dewpixel.com)

We have been hosting black mesa for years and any issues we bump into, we always seem to take care of it. What better support can you get? you can simply send me a PM anytime you need it. Better yet you can even take down my MSN.

I’ve been with 1&1 for almost a year now and haven’t had any issues at all with them, very good service in my experience.

Ok, I’ll probably do that so.
Also, i’ll probably need some tuts on doing it, I’ve never done it before, but my mother doesn’t really want anything too complex, so it shouldn’t be too hard, right?
Also, sersoft, that page is inaccessible to me. Turned off?

StartLogin.com is what I use. They have a special going on right now where the hosting fees are uber cheep… 5.95 a month. No you dont pay a 2 year contract up front, you literally pay per month. This doesnt include the setup fees but for what you get it is WELL worth it.

Oh… and in case you need any website templates to get you going:

Yeah my PC was off for the night…

Tuts in HTML/PHP? Look here. You start from scratch, no “programming*” knowledge required.

*HTML isn’t a programming language.

(write random shit like bgcolor and title here) write random shit here

also for links you need my link

and for images it’s picture

Hmm, I’ve just read some info on them, and people in general aren’t happy with their service.

They kicked off 7chan, and their spare server with no warning or reason given.

(And before you guys flame me, 7chan has an /elit/ section.)

since when do you define the bgcolor in the head?
your title your text and stuff Link
= links
= images

= line break

= horinzontal line

Tables:

<table>
<tr>
<td></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td></td>
</tr>
</table>
= rows = columns

It depends how you do it. Personally I prefer external CSS so it’s not even in the head.

Used Imonfire’s link, and got going fine, except that guy is too happy.

Trust me… the format is all there. There are 31 free templates to choose from, so no you dont have to worry about someone coming back and bitching you out. Just look at the source code to take out their gibberish and input your stuff.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
