A question for all the Aussies, Black Mesa fans, developers & moderators:
Do you come from the land down under? How do you like your Vegemite? What exactly does it taste like, is it an acquired taste? Should you spread it thick on a slice of bread? Or spread it thinner? Does it taste anywhere like Marmite? Do you hate Marmite?
I’m from the US, so I only marginally qualify to respond here. I tried Vegemite when I was in Sydney (back in '93), and I think it’s definitely an acquired taste. Then again, I’m sure there are plenty of things here in the states that work out the same way, so I don’t think that’s anything unusual.
It’s definitely an acquired taste, most tourists/foreigners hate it though, especially yanks. I like it on toast with butter and a slice of cheese. As for the taste…well… it’s sort of tangy/bitter/salty but you don’t want to spread it too thickly, otherwise its pretty overpowering. I’ve never tried Marmite so I can’t comment on that.
I remember when they featured Vegemite on an episode of Rocket Power…I’ve always wondered what it tastes like.

It’s an Australian dark food paste made from yeast extract.
The word “vegemite” always makes me think of “vaginitis” for some reason, which is a quick way to destroy my appetite. Few things are less appetizing than a yeast infection.

How Vegemite is made, for those who don’t know.
The XXXX Brewery (beer), after fermentation, send the yeast up to Bundaberg to the Bundaberg Rum Distillery, where they then use the yeast to make run, once they are done with it, they send what is left to the Vegemite factory, where it is turned into Vegemite.
It is a current aussie joke, as far as I know, to convince tourists to put a lot of it on a slice of toast when giving it their first taste, just so you can see their face twist around when they chew it.
If you want to enjoy, you should be spreading it paper thin. My personal fav way to have it is the same as Brokenfridge, but that said, I don’t eat breakfast and thus havent had it in years.
I don’t eat meals at the conventional times, I just eat whenever I’m hungry.
