i never got into duke, before my time, but afaik this duke nukem game won’t really be the result of 14 (iirc) years of development time

Well, Gearbox used the files that the previous dev team were using, so it’s the result of however long it was since they changed engines. Probably a couple of weeks before they got fired, but you never know.
