Uplink Remake

Day 3 Update! More alpha screenshots, with comparisment shots from the goldsource version.

They might be a bit dark, since I’m working on a bright laptop LCD. Lighting will be tweaked later, don’t worry.

I hope I can keep this pace up

Lookin’ good, I’ll be following your progress.

If it helps any, it was supposed to be either part of Lambda Core, or taking place just prior to it.

I also remember a mod waaay back in the day that stuck Uplink in after Port 7 in the first part of the LC Reactor, with some additions around the Garg battle to make it work.

Day 4 in development! More alpha screenshots of the hallway leading to the warehouse. I’m currently working on the warehouse, so no screenshots of that yet. I’m going to restyle it slightly though. Imho, the transition from the hallway to the warehouse is a bit odd and so is the warehouse design. Going to make it look a bit more realistic.

Onto the WIP shots:

Nasty tripmines ahead!

This is looking great! It makes me all giddy inside

Oh yes. Big

I think the lighting looks fine. It’s supposed to be dark. Dark is good. Make more darkness. Now that we have a torch that doesn’t run out of power every 20 seconds, more dark is even better…

At the first you start in a long hallways with a break and a Gargantua from the other side and after an small control room-office full of houndeyes and the the big looby, can you show us something of that???

That actually happens at a later part in the game. First you go down to elevator and calibrate the satelite dish. Then when you come back up, you can use the large door on the left to get to the area you describe. You can see the door on the very first screenshot I posted. I’m mapping it chronologically, so it’ll take a while before I reach that part.

@neuroboy: It is slightly dark in those corridors in the origional, but I still want people to see enough of the environment. The current light setup are the primary lights I’m also going to use in a final art pass. They’ll look a lot better after I’ve added extra effects and other small light sources. A lot of prettiness also comes from using better compiling parameters. Now I use basic settings, so the compiling goes faster and I can hop ingame directly to see if stuff is working the way I wanted it to.

Really good job so far. Don’t beat on yourself if you can’t keep up the pace, stuff happens.

Day 5 of development. I’ve been working on the warehouse. I still have to finish the mechanic with the crate on the rail to get out of that warehouse and add some detail, lighting, etc, but most of the area is done.

As you can see I’ve been a bit more creative here. I felt that the design of the warehouse in Uplink was a bit sloppy. First off, the only way to get large crates into the hallways was by carrying them up to stairs apparently. I added a freight elevator to fix this. Also, the transition from the hallway to the warehouse now has a door, which seemed a lot more plausible.

Some alpha WIP screenshots:

I look forward to this. I’ve never actually played Uplink, should I?

Definitely, small file size but great gameplay IMO.

If you’re going to play Uplink on goldsource, I also highly recommend Uplink Extended, which remakes the original uplink with higher visual detail and a (so far) small extension.

Hezus, looks great! Looking forward to the eventual download link!

hezus from sven co-op, right?

loved your work, still do today.

It was never released for Steam, but some folks were kind enough to convert it:

@Hell-met: Yes, the same :slight_smile:

Uplink indeed - What an amazing but short MOD that was. Someone please re-create US Darkstar as well

Looks very promising.

I’ve always loved Uplink. It was my first introduction to PC gaming. I played it knowing absolutely nothing about HL. After finishing it I ran right out and bought HL and have been a devout fan of the series ever since. Many have stated that Uplink rivals even the best parts of HL.

I’ll be watching your progress very closely with much anticipation. Just don’t take eight years to complete it, OK.

Good luck with your development.

Judging by his progress so far, this likely won’t take even near a year. But shit happens, so who knows. I’m gonna keep my eye on this, you’re work looks pretty darned nice.

Thanks for all the replies

Day 6 update! I’ve been working on the yard around the warehouse. It’s not fully done yet, but here are some early screenshots of some semi-presentable areas. Still a lot of work left to be done, but it’s getting there slowly and steady. I’ll be out tomorrow night, so there probably won’t be an update tomorrow.

Hezus, it looks good, but you need to add more details to the walls… or may be some bump maps >_>
