Aww, only getting 20mbps on your normal 30mbps connection?

The shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit or just shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit.

psh.
I get 150kB/s, and you don’t hear me complain.

I used a private tracker the other day for the first time ever and I got like 700kb/s on a torrent. Never had it going that fast before :fffuuu:

does that read 13 kB/s?

Sheesh, that sucks.

Why are you restricting your torrents to 10kb/s?

My connection isn’t too bad. 5M down 1M up on fastpath. But because Bell has throttled everything down I usually only get 25-70KB downspeeds on torrents. It’s about enough to make me invest in giganews again.

Hahaha Barcelona is full of faggots.

You need to look more for hidden text.

My isp fixed the bug with me resetting my modem, now my torrents are always capped at 30kB/s from 4pm to 1am… But for http downloads I get almost 1 megabyte/second.

It’s called encryption and could potentially boost your torrent speeds to the same speed as your http downloads

Nope. There is no way around it. Secure sockets, encryption, it’s all covered. There was a big write up about it over on DSL reports. Though I doubt non Canadians would follow the story as much.

The funny thing is I had it all worked out, I didn’t have to encrypt my traffic, use stupid ports, use an SSH tunnel, or a paid VPN service, I just went into 192.168.2.1 and reconnected to PPPoE a few times and then reset the modem, after that my traffic was unblocked, even though it only worked with my modem, all my friends said it didn’t work for them.

Anyway it’s no big deal, I am now considering alternative ISP’s because I’m gonna get a proper job soon and I’ll be able to pay for my own internets. Stay the hell away from Sympatico/Bell.

Om nom nom. I could set you up a VPN server. Fat chance they’d sniff that. Then again, encrypted traffic is often easily detected because the contents of packets seem to be bogus.

If ya can I suggest a cogeco or roger major tunk line reseller. If it doesn’t go through Sympatico DSL lines, then you should be able to avoid the throttling Bell does.
Cogeco does throttle as well, but only on their DHCP clients (like ones that hook up to their service) if you can get a hold on a company that uses their fiber line running from Montreal to Toronto you should be able to get proper speeds again.

Zsub, it’s not about the type of traffic, it’s the amount of data flow ports that you can open up. There is one company that owns (for all intents and purposes) all the DSL lines. Because everyone uses their lines they all go through it. Even a lot of Cable connections eventually reach a Bell relay at some point. Most often it’s the hop as you cross border. It technically restricts ALL traffic, but because torrents and P2P open up many connections on the same port. They simply block data from moving full bandwidth when you open more than a few connection on ANY port.

It’s total BS, and by the very nature of P2P and torrents, there isn’t anything ya can do about it.

I got the sarcasm, freaked me out in the quote at first, i just assumed you were being sarcastic.

Did it hurt you to type those words?

That’s basically the fun of a VPN  You open one (1) connection on one (1) port and then redirect all of your traffic. So all Bell sees is one connection with one port, i.e. no throttling. If your side of the story is correct, of course

Yeah, it is possible through VPN, but the free ones are each very limited in the speed they offer. Even the pay ones are a bit hit and miss. The VPN has to have an outside Canadian IP, which is a pain as well.

vpn does not work, they throttle port 1723

Maybe it works for some people, but not for me.
