Hello,
I want to translate the game into Arabic language, but how I can get the subtitles files ?

Hello Stapheen! Thank you so much for your interest in helping out with the translations effort. Adding more languages to the available translation set can only help to further add to the enjoyment of Black Mesa.
Any effort on that front will be greatly appreciated. However right now, I have asked the volunteer translations team to put there efforts on hold for a bit.

Why?

Right now, the captions system on the Steam retail version is in the process of an overhaul, so that all voice-over lines use Soundscripts Entries. (https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Soundscripts)

All the currently available languages on Steam Retail version are being converted to use this system as well. When this update gets pushed out (date TBD), structurally it’s all going to look different than what the mod’s version looks like, but these new versions will serve as the template for any translation efforts going forward.

When this update becomes available (date TBD), then you should be able to get right to work. (I deeply appreciate your patience while on standby for this)

First, what you will need to do is grab GCFScape, which allows you to open .vpk files (https://nemesis.thewavelength.net/?p=26)

In your steamapps/common/ folder, Go to “Black Mesa/bms” ,then open the file “bms_misc_dir.vpk”.

Click on the “resource folder”, and you’ll find all the closed caption .txt files there.

I found anthor closedcaption.txt in the Black Mesa/hl2 and then opened the file called “bms_misc_dir.vpk” and in the resource I found closedcaption.txt
what is it for ??
Should I translate it also ?

What I understand from those files is for hl2, are you working in this game too ?

Do you still need the French translation ?

I made a complete translation of Black Mesa in French and creates the missing French game files.

The file that it was translated and tested,

bmsmp_french.txt
bootup_english.txt ==> bootup_french.txt file does not work (Japanese symbol), only the working file bootup_english.txt…

optionssubblackmesa.res ==> So that the translation is not cut in the black mesa options.

I’d like to ask a couple of questions, if I may:

• Is it possible to help with the Spanish translation, in particular, fixing lines that require some changes and adding the new content? The old forum seems dead as a Dodo.
• Considering that the project now supports a language selector and languages not originally found in Steam, is it possible to split the Spanish translation into European Spanish (Castilian) and Latin American Spanish? I’d love to get an European version.
