I looked at some of the shots of Residue Processing and i noticed the toxic water or waste(what ever the green stuff is) was just a static looking layer. at the time i thought nothing of it but then after playing left 4 dead 2 and seeing the spitter goo i thought something simular would be awsome. just throwing that out there.
They already said they have bubbles that form and pop, and probably simulated ‘waves’. Don’t worry.
First civil thread ever. Good job guys.
Should I break it?
No! Don’t do it! you’ll kill us all!

And Hi, welcome to Mythbus-I mean the forums!
Good suggestion, but unfortunately spitter goo is probably a “Particle” effect whereas water effects are a skin or maybe a texture. Particle effects are usually 2 dimensional, whereas the effects used on water colouration are usually three dimensional.

Sorry, should’ve explained better, the water colouration effect is usually a 3D texture mask as opposed to a 2D particle effect.
The water effects in source are, I believe, done using three passes. First the water shader distorts everything underneath it. Second pass adds the murkiness as it gets deeper. Third pass reflects everything above the water, flips it on the Z-axis, and applies it to the water. I’m probably not describing it precisely, but it’s all described in detail in the developer comment at the beginning of the Lost Coast.
