Tips and advices for a drawing test.

So yeah I’m (maybe) going to take a 3D animation and image synthesis course in Cegep (something we have here between high-school and university), but to be admitted I have to pass a selection exam on drawing.

I was sent an e-mail telling me that I was convened, and that the exam would test “if I am able to reproduce a character, represent a scene and a character and to verify my comprehension or perception of spaces and volumes”.

I need tips and advices on how to practice those. Thank you.

Make sure to show them you have a firm grasp of anatomy like so:

O_o

Yeah…

Anyways, I already have a basic understanding of the human’s face/whole body proportions, but tips on that would still be appreciated.

If ur a little more specific with what u feel u need help with I will try to help u as much as I can. My qualification are the fact that I’ve been majoring in fine arts for about the last 8 years of my life, here is an example of one of my pieces, an ink wash I did of my parents, also check out my signature.

The shading and proportions look good but the drawing of the faces look kinda amateurish, but otherwise nice but weird piece.

Some advice young grasshopper, I/we ABHOR lolspeak in a normal conversation. “U” is spelt “you” and “ur” is spelt “you are”/“you’re” in this neck of the woods for general conversation, unless you are purposefully being a asshat, in which case this rule can be excepted.

ON TOPIC
I don’t know much about drawing, but I know shading plays a massive part in depth and whatnot. Perhaps get a teacup, turn off the lights and shine a gooseneck at it. Draw what you see? Honestly, pencil work is one of my weakpoints.

Advice noted and appreciated, actually I’m just being lazy because I’m posting from the touch screen keyboard of my phone, but thanks for the heads up.

No problems, bro.

Well that’s the thing: I don’t really know what I must learn. I’m gonna scan some of my work in the next few days (my scanner’s broken atm) so maybe you could see what I should improve. But thank you !

Make sure you’re doing boring photorealistic kind of style

Is that in responce to the picture I posted? Photorealistic = technically sound, the reason I used that piece was to display my technical understanding not to show my “non-boring” contextual work. I mean seriously Guy this is a portrait of my parents how exciting can something like that really be. Plus I’m pretty sure that his teacher want to see that he can be technically all there and not how creative he is.

Someone’s drowning in estrogen. I assure that I was not referring to your dumb drawing.

Ha, I would like to see you draw (let alone ink wash) something that’s even half as good as my “dumb” drawing.

You’re actually pretty good, I just got done looking @ your deviant art page. You seem to have a lot of potential, all you need to work on now is not being such a ass hole. Although it says you are only 16 so I guess its just an age thing.

I don’t need to be nice. I’ve got reputation!

Anyway Imonfire you might want to check out some threads on conceptart, maybe start one there. The users are those high-end art school professional kind of people that care about this kind of stuff.

So even though you’re a dick I’m going to talk to you about your work anyways because I really dig it. What do you use for your ink on your traditional media pieces, do you just use a sharpie or have you messed around with India ink and technical pens? Are you thinking about going to college for art? All of the professors I have ever met would eat you conceptual stuff up. Just a warning though, they will shove the technical basics down your throat before they will let you run with your own style. Anyways nice portfolio and you should give technical pens a try if you haven’t already, much more control and India ink is much more archival.

Thank, I’ll check that out. Also, just saw this:

I don’t think they’d appreciate it if I drew genitaliclaws

I have used india ink and all that jazz before. Recently, even.

I really would rather not go to something as expensive and useless (in the real world, that is) as art school.
