I called my grandma Ёя (Yoya) when I was small, because I could not pronounce the Z in Zoya. That letter always reminds me of her.
Anyway I was born in a part of Russia that later became part of Ukraine, and then I left to Canada. I don’t really have it fresh in my mind anymore.

Nah, it’s so much better 10 days before christmas than shortly afterwards. People aren’t pooped out yet then, they’re still excited even, and the timing lets me celebrate the entirety of December rather than one crummy day in two different months.
Perhaps that annual compartmentalizing made me who I am today, sometimes playful but…
I’m visiting my sister in Boston and it’s been gently snowing. First snow I’ve seen in 10 years. Raining on this parade is strictly forbidden.
