things I want to see

In my honest opinion I think everything so far looks very good with the mod that has been released as media, and I would like to summarize what I would like to see in the mod which are not completly as they are in Half Life 1 but I think would be wicked!

ok small one first, in the Lamda core after you are dodging the lasers at the top of the reactor you come out into a corridor and have to climb up a ladder in an elevator (elevator with a ladder in it wtf) yes it is true, well if my memory serves me correct, could make a nice physics puzzle and I thought some headcrabs jumping out of a vent on you from above at this point would also be good. even an elevator that does not work and then you have to get up into the shaft would be good, with a power failure and lights out momment… But that in my opinion from the original was crap and possibly the only really crap part to the experience that I had.

check it here if you dont believe me

Next one more involved but would be fairly easy to execute also, I would like to see at least one scientist in a hev suit still alive in xen who is injured and you try to help him by getting water from a healing pool but when you return he is facing away from you when you get closer he turns around and has a headcrab on his head and lashes out at you, and is a bit more tough to kill than a normal zombie… Gonarchs lair would be an ideal setting for this type of small cutscene (helping him is a bluff for the sequence to occur and give hopefullly a little fright to the player)

I only just seen the health chargers from the ps2 version of half life yesterday also and think they look cool with the mechanical arm syringe attachment on them and would like to see this varient in game too.

I think they’re past the phase where they’ll add stuff like that. The mod is PROBABLY feature complete and now they’re just polishing and fixing stuff.

Of course, this is just my opinion and this post is not to be quoted or used in any discussion about the status of the mod.

Don’t make a big deal out of this.

If you’re from London then why is your english so terrible?

Exactly they are still changing, refining it and trying to make it better, I am just trying to help…Good to make things a little fresh and not just a straight conversion as we have seen with the On a rail chapter, well regardless no ladders in elevators please

I could be a foreigner living in London but I’m not,It was late and my wireless keyboard is running low on battery:[

It makes sense to there being a ladder there in case the elevator stops working.

Yeah, Ronster in real life there are ladders in lifts/elevators for the above reason…

In fact, you had to use the ladder in Unforeseen Consequences because the elevator was destroyed.

Almost every elevator was out of order after the incident. :retard:

yep every elevator except the most dangerous looking ones

I don’t Remember that I will check this in a bit… Now wait a minute, I got the Impression you are all trying to convince me that in every day life you walk into lifts / elevators with ladders in them? Like it is normal? Well not where I’m from it isnt…The main benefit of a ladder in an elevator would be to escape from the person who let’s one go, and If you don’t feel to stay in there and take in the aroma then thats the way out.

IMO It is a cop out by Valve because of limits on the technology of the time when Half life was originally released. Games have come quite a way since those days, yes I will agrre that elevator shafts have ladders in them but these are accessible normally through a hatch in the top of the lift or from another floor where the lift is not sitting not visible to the public

I now remember the one you are talking about in unforseen consequences… It is really funny seeing the scientist flash before your eyes going to his impending doom, but it is totally different sequence you do not get in the elevator…

The Elevator from the Office complex where you have to climb on top and break the hatch is atleast a believable construct although there is a thread on this also regarding the Scientist and the Security guard and if they should try to make the jump…

Look again at the lift there is just somthing not right about it…

I think the best thing to do here would be to get in a concealed elevator you push the button it raises you up it then sparks and we have a screen shake plus a mechanical metal bowing breaking sound and the elevator drops and lights go out you have to put the torch on puch the buuton and the (struggling) doors open leaving you at half height which you can jump and crouch to get back out on the same floor and then jump onto the top of the lift/elevator to ascend the shaft at this point a headcrab shows up only to delay you and the lift drops slightly again(trigger based) you must get on the ladder before it completley drops away and sends gordon to his death. The one in the original shown in the link makes no sense.

There’s a truckload of stuff in HL that made no sense but they worked because they were part of the challenge of going through the game.

If there were no ladders in those parts of the game, it would be impossible to beat the game.

Also, Ronster, that last paragraph of yours it’s painful to read. Some punctuation would be great.

They were on the same line as the phones.

OK I messsed about with this today and mapped it out came across a few cannot do’s or atleast I do not know how to do… Has taken me all day but fairly pleased with the end result, was both frustrating and fun

I Think it works fairly well only problem is you fall through the roof of the elevator so cannot use it as a platform:jizz:

Link To Map file if you are interested in how i did did the sequence and I fixed it you can now jump on the lift (open in Hammer and run the map in EP2).

I don’t know why you’re even suggesting stuff like this at this stage of development, not like it’s going to be used or anything. But who am I to stop you from wasting your time…:retard:

sounds like a dumb idea anyway, I want to jump on the ladder like in the original, even if I have to press E a bunch of times to get on the ladder

Thats not very nice… I enjoyed making it and learnt a bit on the way not a waste of my time. at all. I enjoy mapping but only when I have the time to do so like now.

It was meant to be a bit of fun really
