The scene where walt and jesse meet was pretty “whuuut?” too, walt’s a fucking megalomaniac, if that wasn’t clear enough already. He basically just pissed in jesse’s face with that hug.

I’m of the opinion that Walt still feels some compassion for Jesse as a surrogate child. There is definitely a father son component to their relationship. Perhaps that hug was Walt feeling secure enough with him to admit at that moment all of the terrible things he had done to manipulate and control Jesse. Does he care? If it’s for his benefit, probably not. But he was able to admit it. You could see the tortured pain on Walt’s face as he hugged Jesse, obviously trying to hold it together so he didn’t seem weak.
I think it was the only way Walt saw to save the situation and not having to kill Jesse, and he thinks works, but obviously Jesse saw through it, hence his “reaction”.
