Yeah, I think some people still don’t realize that they’ve been watching a show about a normal guy who is turning into an evil crime lord.
fuck, last episode in a year coming up
Yes Well at least this is a series with a great and solid story and if it has to end in Season 5 it is for the best. Opposed to what many TV Series do today. “Oh they like it? They like repetition?” Milking
What about the time she told Walt to his face that she ‘Fucked Ted’ just to spite him? All she does is whine and complain and not work with Walt. Shes totally exaggerating and playing the victim, when she was ballsy enough to go completely over Walt’s head and take HALF A MILLION DOLLARS. And kitchen rape? If I remember correctly she was OK with it when he was doing it, the “Oh no stop it” came when he accidentally pounded her head against the fridge, she wanted him to stop hurting her (I.e. banging her head on the fridge) not stop having sex with her. I mean I cannot be the only one who thinks Skyler’s a super bitch.
No, you’re not the only one who thinks that. That’s the disgusting part. There is a large, vocal group of watchers who think that Walt is an infallible protector of the good and Skylar is a bitch who just wants to mess up everything that Walt has worked so hard for. This is complete bullshit, of course, but you’re not the only one who believes it.
Skylar may come across as a bitch (and I believe she admits this herself in one of the episodes), but she’s the only one who has the family’s interests in mind anymore. Walt is waaaaaaaaaaaaay past that stage. At this point he doesn’t (even pretend to) care about anybody or anything but himself and his empire. The cancer coming back or Walt getting his ass shot by someone (Jesse, Hank, Gomez, Todd, someone from Phoenix… luckily, there are a myriad choices) is the only chance Skylar has to keep her family safe and have some semblance of a normal life again. Walt is beyond saving, and even if he wasn’t, he wouldn’t want to be. He needs to die, but I get the feeling that a lot of shit is going to be fucked up in the meantime.
You misunderstand why I call Skyler a bitch. From what I can gather you think, I think that she is a bitch because I’m some sort of misogynist or because I think that Walt is some sort of great guy. No, just no. I think Skyler’s a bitch because she plays the victim all throughout the show while being a scheming, conniving, and self-righteous ass hole. She over exaggerates the dangers to the family, she doesn’t respect or trust Walt- though she fucked Ted- she never apologized to Walt, she fears Walt as if he’s some sort of psycho, and she wants him dead. I’m not trying to say Walt is some kind of Meth-Jesus here, but look at how he got the way he is; by Skyler being a complete and total cunt. You forget Skyler can leave anytime she wants to. ANYTIME. But she doesn’t because she would rather play the victim while enjoying the lifestyle that she has become so accustomed to paid for by Walt’s ‘Blood money’. Not out of greed, or the hardcore gangster rap lifestyle, but the turning point came when Skyler told Walt she had an affair with Ted. THAT’S when Walt snapped.
btw No matter what you think, can we all agree that Anna Gunn is an amazing actress for making Skyler such a great character?
I’ve yet to realize if Walter is like that because of the affair that Skyler had (= family doesn’t care for him as much as he supposedly cared for the family, Skyler is between the kids and him and he can’t do anything about it), or… if Walter was always like this after entering the meth business - he really didn’t care about his family and we only saw that part (for the first 3 seasons more or less) and what he always wanted was power (after what happened to him in Gray Matter). In the field of the meth business he went from noob to pro - killing Krazy-8, Tuco, Gus (+ some related to the business along the way Gale).
I only say this because I think the creators of the series wanted us to know the good side of Walter and his relationships with his family - remember the first season the scene with Gretchen and the see the scene from Buyout (Season 5) where Walt discusses with Jesse.
Have we seen a transformation of Walter or what he already was but hidden away from the spectator view? What other reasons there were to climb up the ladder and kill the leaders of the Meth business? Family? Ego?
Many of us, just like Walter… he’s a likable character for many reasons… and we dislike Skyler… Yes, Walter is a monster (frankenstein, jeckyl and hyde hybrid perhaps) in many ways… and yes, the road to hell is paved with good intentions etc etc… And we should be rooting for Skyler, blah blah…
Thing is, Vince Gilligan, like David Chase before him (who here doesn’t completely love the monster that is Tony Soprano?), is a complete fucking master of screwing with our heads like this… look at us… mission accomplished, Vince.
I do wonder, though, that because most viewers (probably) admire Walt to some degree, that the finale could end up being somewhat similar to Sopranos - ambiguous, cryptic and very much open to personal interpretation… you know, to play it safe.
…Really??
She whammed her head when trying to escape his grip after yelling for him to stop.
I hope this is a huge revelation for you that your perspective is warped, like the ending of Fight Club.
Welp, kind of a slow midseason finale but the ending set the direction that the rest of the season will be on.
This is gonna be a long and painful year or so.
But this episode was fuckin’ satisfying.
Two fantastic montages, possibly the greatest and most tragic interaction between our two leads, and, of course, the money shot we’ve all been waiting for.
Damn, I did NOT expect to see Walt and Hank grope in the bathroom-- the last thing on our minds was that either of them could be gay or bi, with red herring characters like Gus and Gale seeming plausibly gay.
That scene was a little painful to watch considering they’re brothers-in-law-in-law.
By the way, I don’t think Skylar knew what Walt meant when he finally said he was out of the closet.
Brilliant episode.
The book that Hank picked up at the end of the episode, how did Walt receive that book/ why did he keep it?
This episode might be one of the best ones from the show for me. It’s so beautifully shot and edited. And it felt, weirdly nostalgic, even more so than 51 which the entire purpose of that episode was to show how different things are now. I loved that episode, but this was something more though, this was something for us.
It’s like a clock. Walter has come full circle. In the pilot, Walt’s life was mundane, boring and he really just didn’t give a fuck. And that is exactly how he was in this episode. The montage wasn’t to show how fancy and smooth things were going, it was to show that even though this is a fucking dangerous job, it’s still a fucking job. There’s no adventure for Walt anymore. When he went to Jesse’s, I thought he had something planned, something “eeebul” but no, it was just Walt looking for he and Jesse had. The thrill.
This was probably the saddest episode of Breaking Bad, well for me at least.
The scene with Jesse and Walt was heartbreaking and awesome. Far and away my favorite scene this episode, probably season.
Both the scene with Jesse and Walt and the end scene with the family had me glued to the edge of my fucking seat.
And for me, the montage of the 10 murders ordered by Walt was his final transformation - I genuinely don’t think he can come back from that and his declaration of being “out”, for me, is bullshit - he’s in all the way.
Personally, I think Walt will “win” at being a cook/criminal mastermind at the cost of everything and everyone he wanted to support in the first case.
My first reaction when he said “I’m out” was “lol, no you’re not.” In spite of that, I think he genuinely wants to get out and rebuild his family.
Hank reading that book, though, will probably prevent that, which is quite tragic (in the literary sense).
I am really not sure how it will go because I have come to trust that the writers of Breaking Bad are good enough to throw something unexpected or just make it even though predictable awesome.
It seems obvious to me that Hank’s on to him, and he’ll have to become a fugitive. The opening scene of the season certainly seems to suggest that.
