So a friend of mine, who I haven’t seen in a year, has been having a rough time lately (she got fired a few weeks ago and seems to have taken it rather hard).

Today she posted a new profile picture on Facebook, I felt like being a nice guy and commentedd “you sure lost a few pounds, you’re looking tight”.

She replied: “this picture was taken 5 years ago…”

Well fuck.

Being ‘nice’ doesn’t mean mixing up insults and compliments. Now you look like a tool and it’s going to be very awkward the next time you try talking to this person and it’s all because you don’t know how to interact.

To be fair, if that had been a recent photo, my comment would’ve made her go “aaaaw yeah, job well done”. A lot more so than when I would’ve said “looking good”.

Besides, if I had said “looking good”, she would still go “that was 5 years ago, I don’t look like that anymore because of this and that, my life is shit”.
