The thread of Portal 2

It’s not a new engine, derp.
You won’t be able to spawn the HL2 Weps because they’re from an older version of the engine, but hey, you never know.

Edit: Dragon, as I read more of your post, it brought me to believe that you either don’t know who Valve is, or that you’re mentally challenged.

a more updated version of the engine may be more right to say or even say source 2
did see a build version of the engine : source engine: 2001 (build:4400) so i dont know this is the best to be called new engine or old or source 2

New engine? Where?

The new source engine!? Don’t you know about the freakin new source engine!? (Try the l4d engine, why Valve made the alien swarm free game or the source engine 2)

ITT people talk out of their ass. The Source engine doesn’t get monolithic releases like the Unreal Engine does, they just upgrade it each time, but it’s still essentially the same engine.

To be honest I am not too exited about the new engine. Considering it will have less crashing and some fixes, I would more like “advanced and full of functions” than “easy and straight forward”.

I mean, you don’t need a new entity for (for example) a trigger for a door, that’s what prefabs are for!

Portal 2 will run on GoldSRC; Valve are relying on the nostalgia-factor to market the game.

Damn was really happy when i heard it could be out in a week or two but when i read this i keep saying DAMNIT!!!:freeman:

Sinature under construction

[COLOR=‘Black’]I was writing that in this text color!

Is anybody else at all worried about the difficulty level that we’re going to see? I barely made it through the first game without looking up how-to’s. From the trailers, some of this stuff looks pretty intense. I’m not very good at problem solving!

Actually I’m very satisfied with Portal’s difficulty. Challenging but not frustrating, playing some mods really made me realize how spot on Valve was. Got stuck on 2 of the advanced chambers, I understand that even the most dedicated players need a challenge.

I also hope the difficulty setting will affect some minor details of the test chambers, like add an obstacle or remove some of those white panels.

Learning curves.

Why not? There were in Portal. Nobody complained then, afaik.

Obviously there shouldn’t be overt connections between the two stories (Chell meeting Combine, Gordon with Portal gun etc.), but I don’t see what’s wrong with Easter-egg like references that reveal more about the universe of both. Who cares if Portal was put in the Half-Life universe out of necessity? That doesn’t make it any less part of it.

Play some games like TAG and Grappling Hook in the meantime to keep your mind sharp. Neither of them is as good as Portal, but they both have some similarities and the TAG team is even working on Portal 2 and implementing their paint mechanics.

Speculating that Portal 2 will contain zero Half-Life references is silly. Just like pretending the Aperture logo on the Borealis didn’t mean anything. We have to get used to the idea of more crossing-over.

The thing I love about Portal 2, and Valve for that matter, is that… try to guess how Portal 2 will end? Just think: you’re possibly the last living human on Earth, all your friends are robots, and everything built around you is falling apart and deteriorating. making a four-hour story (let alone videogame) on this premise, seems to me like an impossible task.

When I said new engine I meant an updated version of the current. I really don’t have time to play 4 year old games and banter with you about my intellegence. You have never met me and I would appreciate if you would kindly cease from ever speaking to me.

I’m a fellow Lovecraft fan, so I’m inclined to give you the benefit of the doubt, but goddamn you’re retarded.

i am a great fan of portal :stuck_out_tongue:

i am working on a multiplers mod for portal atm and i gonig to try to use the technolgogy on portal 2

(yes there is no source code for portal or portal 2 i am working a round it)

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
