The Surface Tension Update - Patch 2

Surface Tension Update - Patch 2
Note: This update does not contain Xen! We are hard at work on Xen. This is a small stability update aimed at lower-end users.

Programming

 • Fixed a number of potential crashing issues on low-end graphics cards.
 • Fixed an issue with the depth buffer that was causing the game to crash for some users.
 • Fixed some instances of the “Disable CSM” option not working properly.
 • CSM/depth buffer will now be disabled completely by default on low-end graphics cards that are not officially supported.
 • Fixed mat_hdr_level & mat_tonemapping_occlusion_use_stencil convars not working properly. This will hopefully help to resolve a sporadic issue for some users where the game would turn dark after a few seconds. If your game turns dark after a few seconds, try setting mat_tonemapping_occlusion_use_stencil to 1 in the console.

BUT WHERE IS ZEN PLSSSSSSS

No xen?

Patience, friends. Do you want Xen to be the next Duke Nukem Forever, or Sonic the Hedgehog 2006?
A delayed game is eventually good. A rushed game is bad forever. To quote our beloved Shiggy.

On topic, that probably the smallest changelog I’ve seen in a while. I bet that CSM’s being a royal pain to fully debug.

Not to mention making the game work on 10 year old, way past end of life, anemic laptops with integrated graphics. That’s sheer brilliance on the programmers part.

Both of you

Maybe a little less of your brand of humor is called for, with only 21 likes for almost 1400 posts you think you might have figured that out by now. Another thing you think you might have figured out by now is that the xen thing is REAL OLD.

If you were a dev, then it’d be humor. Pretending to be begging yourself for an update.
But seeing as you’re just an average Joe like the rest of us, it’s less humor and more “thinking nagging is actually funny when it really just makes the dev’s jobs more painful”.

Does it contain the new vehicle models from BBMIP 3.0?

Regarding the Xen humour stuff, it’s not funny, but let’s not get our panties in a bunch. It doesn’t kill us. We’ll take it on the chin.

We’ve had enough new users reporting issues from the sale that we did not want to wait for the next big patch for these core stability fixes. The next big patch will probably be the overall smallest major update too - we’re scaling back our update efforts a little bit now so we can really focus full force on Xen. Not to suggest our updates were ever significantly detracting from progress there, but we’re getting the core game closer and closer to where we want to be now, so, bugs and stability aside, we are really focussing on Xen now.

No, those are for CU4.

I completely understand. Small changelog, big fixes!

Full force as in a full-team focus? That’s pretty exciting! But I guess that means no big non-Xen content updates in the near future?

Thank you so much for the lighting fixes! It is much better now!

Not to make them the next Xen, but will the next Content Update include the updated VMFs?

Thanks for all the hard work!
I’m sure a few of my friends would appreciate seeing the updates for the lower end computers, since they’re still rocking gear from 2003-2006.

what was the update today???

Relax, probably the same Update, just bit more fixing or something.

lol, just trying to find out if it was a stealth update or not, with no mention of it, it could be juicy

They’ve updated a small piece of code to hint at the upcoming sequel, Black Mesa 2: Return of the Nihilanth’s Revengeance - The Reckoning.

Everyone stop bullshitting in this thread please. It’s really not funny and doesn’t help. If you absolutely need to post something just because, then post something nice or constructive. Thanks!

so whats the skinny on the 28meg update?

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
