The only problem is, Vancouver could not afford to hold the Olypics. They will have paid out over 500,000,000 in security alone. The Government is now trying to push a additional 6% tax for eating out.
Montreal just finished paying for when the Olympics were held there in 70s.
We have a bunch of tards in the Canadian Government.
Also, we have a perfectly good, and usalbe site in Calgary… The ones who cash in are the those on the olympic board.
The price for a ticket is retarded - average Joe/Sally has to pay for the bloody thing, but can’t afford to go.

This is where all the speed skaters train. There are only two speed skating rinks in Canada, so this is where they train, but then they go elsewhere for the olympics.
It’s not like those facilities will go unused after the olympics, it’s just a new spot for Olympians and athletes to train. It’s expensive, but it brings in a shitload of money for the city from people all over the world.
Also, we do have a usable site in Calgary, but the Olympics move around every year, so that point doesn’t really make much sense.
I hear you level, and those things are true.
As for holding it in Calgary, the only thought being is that if they hold is there, then more folks could afford to go see them. $180 for one ticket is a play thing for the Rich. Why not break tradition for the sake of the greatest good. If they are in Calgary, or in Vancouver, it is still in Canada. The only difference being, is that one costs a whole lot less.
As for the new training facilities, you are quite correct. We do get some gains out of it. Like a lot of jobs in the short haul. Problem is, that if the same money were invested into industry/tech sector, etc - It would have had a greater impact long haul, in terms of sustainable jobs.
The old folks and children are the ones who are also going to take a beating in terms of med care, and child development resources… for what? the rich to come a play? Some dumb-ass political leader to blow smoke out his butt and try and win some votes?
As for training sites, we could have built them without having outlay a lot of cash to drive the olympic machine. Childcare, and old folk care is more important I think.
Also, I work for a railway… the security needed for this little event is mind bending. Everything is disrupted in the interest of the olympics. The cost is far greater than what is covered in the reports.
Still, they are here, and nothing can be done about it. It simply does not make sense in finacial terms.
