BIOS is outdated crap we don’t fucking need. It’s from the days just after those little dip-switches became old-fashioned. It’s history and I don’t want it.
I want EFI or something like that. I don’t need my hardware to do obscure tests that take some good 20 seconds before it actually starts DOING something. I don’t fucking want 16 bit assembler. Sure, some of it might be needed because of the way we once designed it and how even modern hardware works, but have you ever taken a look at a BIOS?
Those things are binary blobs with ultimate control over my hardware. What’s more: I am dependent on a certain vendor to update that binary blob. All BIOSes contain bugs or mistakes. I have literally not seen a BIOS that didn’t contain a bug or a wrong label or something.
How often I looked for a feature in those ugly, UGLY menus that are so counterintuitive even women are easy to understand in comparison. It’s just mind-boggling how hard they must try to make their BIOS shitty.
The old macs, before they moved to intel, those iMacs (yeah the original ones) they had a thing called openfirmware. What this essentially was, was a commandline. It just gave me a white screen, black letters and a prompt. IT IS ALL YOU NEED TO CONFIG YOUR COMPUTER. Cannot handle a commandline? Then GET THE FUCK OUT. If you don’t know how a commandline works you shouldn’t be peeking around in the openfirmware to start with (or in the BIOS or EFI or WHAT-FUCKING-EVER).
Ugh. Just… Google it or something. EFI, openboot, openfirmware. Have fun learning!

Besides which: welcome to the rage thread. Well-informed, well-written essays are not quite the norm here.
There are plenty bios makers that made it possible to skip all the tests just like apple does and boot in one second, but it’s not an advantage, I like having the possibility to see my CPU/Ram/Hdd before Windows starts loading, I like being able to overclock my PC without touching any overclocking software, I like that my PC runs tests at startup to ensure my PC is in top health, apple sucks and EFI sucks, it makes the mac less of a computer IMO.
