The Old Black Mesa Site

This is too awesome… memories…

That takes me back. Flash is generally completely retarded and annoying, but I still have a soft spot in my heart for that old site. That January 2006 update post from Kalash is the first thing I remember reading about BM from after I heard about it ina a HL:S discussion on the Steam user forums. Nearly 4 and a half years I’ve been following this amazing mod.

And became a moderator. COLOR='Black’lucky.

Yes flash is cool, but its platform-dependant, which sucks.

Is there ever a time where asmall bit of flashis acceptable?

There is flash on the page?

I wish they’d remake the old site, but with a combination of the current one. obviously on HTML5 when people can.

Just wait for Internet Explorer 12 before you can expect the beginning of HTML5 being introduced to IE…

Hopefully other browsers will support it eventually, I’m not moving to IE any time soon.

Move to IE :fffuuu:

Maybe if IE worked I’d forget you said that

I could give a dam about HTML5. I just want to be able to use CSS2/3 and have it work on every browser.

A man can dream…

@Dillxn If it wasn’t for the fact whey were paying me, I think I would just punch some of my clients in the face.

@Catz I do use small bits of flash on my pages, but only in a manner that is 95%-100% unobtrusive. I follow these rules when using flash.

 • The purpose of the flash is to add a small feature to the site that the user can navigate without any hindrance even if flash is not installed.
 • Do not prompt the user to install flash player if it is not installed.
 • Restore at-least partial functionality to users who don’t have flash player.

Not only that, but 2005!

I most sincerely agree.

So nice to see the original site still up. Love how the Black Mesa theme song plays as soon as the site opens. That is one of the nicest and most fitting pieces of music I’ve ever heard in any game (from id, Valve, you name it), it’s just perfect for Black Mesa. I’m almost looking forward to hearing all the music in Black Mesa as much I am to playing the game itself.

You fellows ought to put that music back in the main page of the new site, so it plays when the page opens. It’s a great way to be greeted to the site.

I’m still not sure how it’s a “theme.”

theme for what, exactly…the promotional campaign? the main menu? the Inbound sequence?

I was under the impression it was the main Black Mesa theme song. Like when you buy a game, say, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl (great game, by the way  ), usually there will be a main title song that always plays when the game starts at the main game menu, and maybe at some important points in the game it will play, as well.

This is often referred to as the main theme song of the game. It is the single song that most represents what the game is; it sets the tone, the feel, the atmosphere of what the game is about, it’s setting, the story, the characters, and so on.

i miss those old bells and whistles :frowning:

WOW! I’ve only hit the first one and it looks EPIC!

Eion Kilant 739: Cool picture.

I am an idiot. I meant to post this: Leafy
It is the basis of my existing site.

Haha, the old Black Mesa site is the best and epic!!

That’s really pretty. :3

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
