The Massive Friggin' Xen Thread

From opening post:

I don’t think Xen should be changed other than what’s already been done to the existing game, graphics, sounds, dynamics and slight level tweaks including adding one or two subtle twists and turns here and there. Looking forward to Xen. :freeman: B)

Just thought of another thing I’d add- for the ending sequence choice where Gordon can choose not to accept the G-Man’s offer of a job, I’d like to make the “battle you couldn’t possibly win” into a survival sequence where the player faces off against a rising tide of enemies before inevitably dying. The original version of the scene just felt like a missed opportunity to me.

i like the idea

I’m guessing that would mean the G-man wouldn’t take your weapons off you, claiming them as ‘government property’ then, correct?

It has the potential to make stupid/stubborn people try play through thinking it’s an alternate ending or something, but otherwise it sounds great.

that maybe could be fixed if there are weapons scattered at the floor in the moment.

It would be awesome if you were teleported to a place surrounded by darkness. Then the crowbar gets teleported right in front of you. When you pick up the crowbar, you will see something in the darkness getting close… then that “something” approaches the area’s light source, revealing to be a lot of alien grunts marching toward your position… fade out then show Freeman’s employment status, then credits.

CONCEPT:

You’ve just defeated the Nihilanth. You’re on an empty Xen island, and you can look around, and there’s nothing there. One by one, your weapons are teleported right out of your hands, with the standard green lightning teleportation effect. When your crowbar’s finally gone, the G-Man teleports in immediately behind you, silently, and starts talking. The scene proceeds as you would expect.

I personally like the survival idea. It’s not like it’s completely impossible to do, since it was heavily implied that a scenario such as this took place at the end. Therefore you could still remain true to the original game while still adding some spice.

with only a crowbar

I think there should be a hole nother story path if you refuse g-mans job…
note this is a idea that will never be…

level start: A fight you can’t win
player starts in a xen cave with nothing but a crowbar, in the cave is 5+ a-grunts and a controller. the player must try to kill the aliens but will fail. after taking out 2 a-grunts or health dropping below 30 some vorts will spawn only they aren’t slaves and attack the a-grunts at this point all goes black with the words we will see about that. (always though the a fight you can’t win part was well bad, you killed the boss you shouldn’t be punished for a last second decision)

Making more out of the teleportation

Basically I really want to feel like i have been pulled apart shoved through a wormhole and out the other side before reaching xen. from lambda core

Teleportation was down played far too much and I hope this can be addressed and not only improved upon via patch in existing levels but more emphasis is put on making teleportation have more visual effects and make it more an event and more pronounced with a lot more visual punch and sound enhancement

Idea about the dark area before the final battle. It must be like God of War III after the Spirit of Zeus made you crazy. Remembering what you have came through before battling Nihilanth. Maybe the BMS Theme can play very silently and popular speeches can also be heard like “We’re cuttting our losses and pulling out!”. Less platforming, like a spiral stair and platforming at the end before reaching the portal.

I have just realized that it has been 5 months since the release of Black Mesa.
Wow. Just wow

Yeah, time goes by fast.

Now this is really awesome.
It would certainly add to the presence effect and play with the player.
I support.

YES! Sounds cool  I think that your weapons should disintegrate though, like how they do when you go through the Combine weapon confiscator.

I like them being disintegrate (maybe in the xen elevator) but after it will become like HL2’s cutscenes except for the tram part.

5 Months? I have yet to play Black Mesa all the way through.

Lots of random crap keeps happening.

I heard Xen will be released after they finish the Deathmatch remake

I’m also a little saddened that Black Mesa hasn’t been Greenlit yet, although Valve might be waiting until the game is complete before making us pay money for it

Actually Black Mesa HAS been greenlit. it just hasn’t been released yet
