OBERYN YOU COCKY BASTARD
WHYYYY
that was pretty shocking and cool at the same time though.
This was the moment I had been waiting for the entire season. You guys are in for a great next couple of episodes.
Oberyn dying had already been spoiled for me (before I even knew he was gonna be Tyrion’s champion), but WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE THIS WAY
oh shiyat, oberyn is/was a fuckhead man
Well. Too bad, I liked the guy.
Oberyn you fucking idiot, ya blew it. Also sadface Jorah.
Oberyn you fucking moron… you could’ve gloat after he’s dead or at least unable to move.
There’s a different moment I’ve been waiting for, this whole season, and it might not happen, sadly :[
The thing is, he didn’t want to just gloat. He wanted to get the Mountain to confess and be able to accuse Tywin of Elia’s murder.
When you think about it, he was introduced just to get crushed, and was ultimately a pointless character.
Still doesn’t change the fact he was a bloody idiot for not taking precautions and underestimating his opponent. Should’ve pinned the Mountain so he DIDN’T get up.
Oh, I agree. But he lived his whole life that way.
HBO makes these great ‘Inside the Episode’ videos in Youtube, you should check them out.

No spoilers (don’t read the comments, though!)
Well he did kill/cripple that tower guy.
Another character that hasn’t done anything of note up to this point.
Turned the Hound into what he is (fire+face=burn across face)… played a pretty major role with Tywin’s keep (don’t remember what it’s called)…
Did HBO show that though? If not, than as far as I am concerned, they were two characters that could have been chopped from the series.
Yes, in Harrenhall iirc.
This episode was bloody meaty.
Haha, what?
Just like in the books, in the series he is hardly shown on screen but he is constantly discussed as being an important piece on the chess board that is the game of thrones. Just mentioning what is in the show, he is responsible for turning the Hound into what he is, he acts as Tywin’s closest dog, executing any order given. As a matter of fact, Tywin’s first strike against the Riverlands and the Starks was when he sent the Mountain and his men to brutalize the peasants living there, killing, pillaging, and raping the men and women living there. Tywin says this himself to Tyrion, saying “I’m sending the Mountain to burn the Riverlands from God’s Eye to the Red Fork.”
The forces the Mountain commands throughout the campaign is known for being absolutely brutal and ruthless, so much so that Robb sees his men as a prime target. Remember when he was angry at Edmure, his uncle? He was angry that Edmure had captured a mill rather than focus on the Mountain.
And Harrenhal was held by the Mountain for Tywin. When Arya is captured, she is captured by his men. He is actually present there in the flesh, choosing himself who is to be tortured and eventually killed.
I think the Mountain is one of the few real villains. He’s sadistic, brutal, and cruel. A true monster, and very much necessary to the plot as the Lanninsters’ ultimate weapon.
