The Game of Thrones thread

Yeah, I know. Imaginative title.

Great start to the 4th season.

Didn’t know that they had recast Daario Naharis, so that took me by surprise. I think I liked the previous actor better.

EDIT:
Just in case it needs to be stated:

No book spoilers unless they are written in black text. Series spoilers are obviously fair game (you shouldn’t be here if you haven’t watched the latest episode in any given week).

The previous Daario was memorable. This new guy is completely forgettable.

I loved watching Arya get her kills in.

Ditto. I also think that in general it felt like a step up from season 3 - many of those episodes felt like filler. There’s still a long way to go, but this one was remarkably solid. I hope it stays that way.

Goddamn chickens. When will the bloodshed end?!

I was waiting for her to say “stick them with the pointy end”, but that would have been stupid of course. Still, it felt wicked satisfaction to see her get a bit of revenge.

This is my favorite season opener of the series. The only gripe I have is one I believe is shared: the new Daario. Even if the old one didn’t match the description of him in the book at all (not that I expected them to conform to something as outlandish and ridiculous on screen) he had that confident macho swagger so pivotal to his character. This guy is really quite bland.

Also, they really knocked it out of the park with the Dornishmen, specifically Oberyn. Great casting, superb acting. He’s exactly how I pictured him.

One of the larger changes from the book this episode that I see starting some fires amongst the book readers are the Thenns. I personally like the depiction here and they clearly morphed them with another tribe. I never expected them to give any time of day to the Skagosi, and combining them with the Thenns seems like the best option they could have taken. Scary, scary dudes.

The only thing I actually know about this series is apparently the biggest spoiler in the history of fiction.

I do intend to watch this series, though. If only it were on Netflix.

How was he described in the books?

He’s Tyroshi, and they are notorious for brightly dying their hair, but Daario is flamboyant even by their standard. His long hair is dyed blue, as is his tri-forked beard. His mustache is dyed orange at the ends. He also has a gold tooth and a penchant for bright clothing and jewelry.

This is a good enough depiction here.

Note that it is only his personality that allows him to get away with looking this way.

Alright, so how the heck is the ‘red wedding’ even a spoiler at this point? Everyone talks about how horrible it is, and in the specific context of how the show kills so many characters. You’d have to be an idiot not to pick up on it.

idk why people get so worked up about spoilers really i read all the books of this and i kind of think its all fucking stupid and its still entertaining to me

So if you’re in the middle of a book and someone all of a sudden tells you about all of the major plot points, you’re still gonna enjoy reading the book like nothing happened, right?

@Pyro: It’s not a spoiler anymore. Unless someone didn’t have time to watch the last season.

no i would just enjoy the boook differently a bit i guess. its about the journey not the destination maaan.

Are the statute of limitations for shows different from those of movies?

I mean, I guess it’s cool if kids today watch the original SW trilogy without knowing anything about it but it’s kinda hard to not eventually run into the “No Luke, I am your father.” twist in current pop culture.

But something as recent as Game of Thrones, which is not nearly as pervasive in our culture as Star Wars, if someone is interested in watching it for the first time now and some guy spoils him certain key events of the plot for no reason, no one would blame the other guy if he got upset over it.

I’ve enjoyed quite a few movies, books, and games that I knew the major plot points of. A story contains far more of interest than just the twists.

It doesn’t change the fact that they’re more enjoyable if you don’t know about major plot points. It’s not like the whole book or movie is ruined, it just doesn’t have the same impact. Also lets get back on topic cause stuff and things.

So Arya just cemented herself as the most badass girl in TV Show history.

I hope for a Arya vs Hitgirl movie now.

The red wedding is not the only major spoiler thing out there. There is another event sure to come that will set the world on it’s edge again.

This is gud: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QDvt5q6bt1s

No spoilers, it’s a song

two gripes about the new episode:

  1. dario
  2. it’s too short
