The future of multiplayer?

Maybe your server should have its own forum or thread, I’m not too interested in reading a book about your policies when there’s perfectly good BM DM future to discuss.

I’m still firmly in the “It will probably get better after release” boat.

well the server already got this thread, better off just changing the title name.
I am also still in the “It will probably get better after release” boat.

However this server currently is not helping.
Player activity decreased since the last time I played.

Surely that indicates that currently it is not the time yet to setup noob & pro servers.
Although I agree with the intend.
In early aces it be better just having it free for everyone accessible to play who paid no matter what.
People want to try and give feedback around here.

If I was a regular on your server I’d be a bit offended by you referring to them as “noobs” and “4[sup]th[/sup] graders” lol…

Trouble is, pro players are not the only ones who get caught by the plugin. For example, someone has a good match then ends up with a temporary ban. At the very least, it should be a kick instead to reset the score of the ‘pro’, rather than a ban.

This thread was posted on Thursday and since then 3 people (incl myself, of course) have complained about the server. If you truly want to maintain the fun of the entire server, you should perhaps start listening to what others are saying, both here, in game and elsewhere to make, at least, minor adjustments. Good servers make compromises. I hate to think what you’d be like if you ever became in charge of a team  . Plus, I like how you cherrypicked points from my previous posts.

I’ve given up anyways with that topic now since I’d just get bombarded with “PICS PLOX OR I DNT CARE (P.S I WULD NOT CARE ANYWAYZ)”. I’ve posted again though as I do think it’s valid to discuss the trend of BM multiplayer.

I’m thinking it will improve on its release but I’m curious as to how much. It would be fantastic if people swarmed into the game when it’s released. I think if more players joined, existing players would be easy to retain due to the fun gameplay and the simplicity of joining a match and just playing. Unlike other games which encourage you to grind to unlock perks etc.

Maybe a lot of it comes down to people just not being aware of Black Mesa multiplayer. It took a while before I knew it had this feature and, when I realised it did, I bought it in a heartbeat. Since then I’ve invested over 100 hours into multiplayer  I’ve not kept up to date with Black Mesa since the release of the free mod and I guess some people could have simply forgotten about it.

Is there an estimated date when the game will be released?

Next person to talk about the server, even in response to this very statement, is getting banned. I said enough.

Feel free to discuss the future of multiplayer. But not specific to that server.

??? Theres no need for such harsh measures.
The thread is fine and can considered about the server is all?

Come on people what are we doing here apart from leashing out about something that is frustrating you.
We can resolve this, I don’t even feel offended or anything.
I’m starting to feel like the oldest guy in here

The server.
runs real fast

[/quote]
so basically i am banned from multiplayer because i dont have at least two year old profile…(even a year later)

look at him, look at him and laugh

(this post was not about the “server”, it is the future of multiplayer… for me. It is dark, like AvoidPaypal)

and totally OFF topic, Textfamguy1 you should look into mirror and see yourself. Moderating a forum isnot how it works. I would be ashamed if i would be a person who hired you to moderate the forum.

Let me help you,
feel free to delete this post and WARM me in PM, or you can continue and even ban me, but you wont be better like AvoidPaypal then.

I think one of the first orders of business is definitely opening up some servers for everyone, The playerbase may not be large, but perhaps some options could help. Think of how many people jump on, see there’s only a few servers (which they may or may not have previous experience with, good or bad) and just decide to drop out altogether.

Perhaps we could organize a BM Community night again? Maybe making it a regular thing could make it so there’s at least one particularly busy server where anyone’s welcome. And we’re all buddies, some of us for quite a while, could be good fun.

A more casual experience like that would certainly make someone who’s too nervous to give MP a try (cough me cough) feel more comfortable jumping in.

I think that would be a great idea to get a bit more activity online

Aren’t the official public servers enough though?

Yes, but they’re pretty much dead. Apparently the ones that have the most activity are less than ideal for some players. Which is why I suggested organizing a time where there will be definite activity on a server (perhaps two, depending on how many people are interested) that anyone can enjoy.

Yep, even I gotta say, almost all of my BMDM matches were from pre-organized events (Test Chamber stream, dev team events, etc.). It’s nice, because even if you get your ass handed to you, you’re still just goofing off with familiar faces.

Wouldn’t the best to start a group for something like that, and organize an event for the public ones?
I can also host a few servers on my machines if anyone is up for something similiar along this.

Let me make this really crystal clear for you here.

The argument about his server is pointless. It is his server, he can run and moderate it however he sees fit. When you play on his server, you are in his house. His house, his rules. If you are concerned that his server has a monopoly on the small player base, the discussion about about community nights and such is a more productive way of dealing with the issue than repeatedly publicly attacking the server host. Again, really quite self explanatory.

The same applies here. You are on our forums, you play by our rules. I have seen too many arguments spring up about this server and they go in circles and are never productive. Someone dislikes the server, the admin defends it, they go round and round in circles with very long posts that contribute nothing to the discussion, but divert the topic. Almost from the very beginning of this discussion it was patently obvious that it would go nowhere. I am within my rights to ask you guys to stop, but you’re pushing my buttons a lot now. I won’t ban you, because it is a touch on the extreme side, but you’re toeing a fine line here.

The amount of time, effort and love I personally invested into MP is enormous. The entire MP team poured a lot into it, we all love it very much and it means a lot to us. I’m very interested to see an honest and deep discussion on what the community thinks can be done to help it along. That cannot happen with a dead end argument such as the one about the server obfuscating the real matter at hand - the title of the thread.

Please continue to have a productive and interesting discussion about the MP player base. I’m really enjoying reading it and there are some cool ideas being thrown around. Do not derail the topic. If you have issue with the server host, take them up privately, but don’t expect them to go anywhere, his stance is fairly clear.

I can also donate a machine to the cause. Temporarily, of course. Enough for an organized event.

IMO, Black Mesa Multiplayer need this:

-The rest of Half-Life Deathmatch maps (crossfire, datacore, rapidcore, snark_pit…)
-The tau cannon or gauss gun shot cross walls
-HL1 original “sv_airaccelerate”
-Mayor mobility in the air with gauss jumping
-Bunny Hop
-More players and more servers
-Model Team Deathmatch and more gamemodes
-More models and can change colour of models. The option to put a helmet in the Marines models
-Put the instant kill with the second attack of crossbow (Yeah, when you click, instantly dies. Don’t have a little retardment.) and remove the crossbow rails when it shot.
-Reduce the damage of egon or gluon gun a lot. It’s too OP.

I hope you like this and please, give me your opinion about this or if something is missing.

Thanks!

Hey guys! Just figured out how to log into the black mesa forum using my mobile phone  I’m on vacations at the moment… I’m having a great time on Mallorca^^ … Anyways… I don’t think egon needs nerf. I think the overall weapon balance and mechanics need to get adjusted to become as close to HL1DM as possible. Same for the movement. Besides of that, the game needs more features to support / allow competetive play… For example: improved visibility (special blood effects for headshots, forcemodels for teams… e.g. red/blue models, high quality HL1-style playeranimations, custom crosshairs, r_drawviewmodel 0, viewmodel_fov, headshot icon for deathmessage, ARgrenade icon for deathmessage, wallbang icon for deathmessage), better 3D sound (working walk-key to allow lurking, louder foodsteps, less annoying LJ-sound, less annoying drop-sound, louder charge-sound for gauss, more quiet ambient sounds), working weapon-drop key, preset teamchat bindings in options, voting-system for managing matches, more balanced maps with less weapons (better structure… only place egon on large maps… it’s too op on small maps like stalkyard or crossfire), competetive players also need spawnkilling (no spawn protection and legacy respawn-system), disabled deathcam, enabled teamattack, tweaked falldamage and insta-respawning (delayed respawns should only be used in CTF and Domination Mode)… Personally I think you should focus on making competitive TDM and 1vs1 a fun and more balanced experience… I’m sure the players will come when the game is ready… Greetings from Mallorca, have a nice day! ^^

Omg Black Mesa Mp needs only one thing- Motivation. You need to add some kind of ranking system or maybe new weapons, hats, skins, crates or something like that

the casual players only need a 16 slot crossfire only server with fast respawning enabled^^ …and some more cheap shitty maps like killbox (which I would not like to see… even though killbox is good for tau-cannon only / egon only arcade 1vs1^^)

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
