I disagree that delays have major impacts on the overall games outside of simply having them actually complete and ready to play. As in, as long as the engine is used to it’s potential, unless a new engine is written with greater potential and wowing abilities, then delays are just delays.
Prototype was hyped, delayed like what, a year+? then it was a huge disappointment, like an hour of gameplay on the hardest mode.

Well from my own experience working in Software Engineering professionally, I can tell you delays can have a double impact. For the engineers it removes the pressure slightly. However, depending on how enthusiastic they are at that point, could shift the output level. I know that on some crappier projects, it’s all too easy to relax and become less motivated during an extension period, despite having managers in the Engineers’ faces.

Software projects can be a draining experience when they go on for too long.

My conclusion: Software is the creation of the devil.

Again, my mistake, my English is not perfect. Maybe it was meant to be “shame to death” (like in “starve to death”) or maybe the concept does not work in English at all.
