The conspiracy of "The Flying Spaghetti Monster"

A belief that there is no God.

So what your trying to say is that atheism is a belief… but it’s also a disbelief? :jizz: Those 2 things are not compatible with each other. It’s one or the other.

Do you actually know what believe means? It is very similar, if not the same to think. We think there is no God. Oh and disbelief and belief are compatible, you just have to change something to make it negative or postive. I disbelieve in the existence of deities, and I believe that there are no deities. It’s pretty simple.

You want me to prove I’m not doing something?

Or you don’t believe.

I disbelieve that I believe in the disbelief of believing in god.

no wait

I don’t believe you, Burb.

I did exactly the same thing just some little time after I created the thread!

WE NEED TO GO DEEPER

IT IS… TOO… MUCH…

time for self-lobotomization

Which is believing something is not. Its active.

I feel like I’ve said that before.

What is it with you, Someonerandm? Why do you insist that not believing is believing?

I want to launch a teapot into an orbit between Earth and Mars. Said teapot would have a bunch of scriptures in hebrew/arabic on it refering to faith and the denying the existance of a Creator and such.

There are just some things that are not scientifically falsifiable, like macroevolution.

Because the alternative is to not think, and we all think. To believe is not like to drive or to eat. Its a fundamentally different action. If you cannot understand this, you simply cannot understand the language.

Thinking != Believing

Everyone thinks, but not everyone thinks about everything. If I have never had a single thought about anything to do with god at all, I’m an atheist, but I don’t ‘believe there is no god’ because the thought has never entered my mind.

Actually you’d be some kind of agnostic, not an atheist. Atheism is a belief, not the lack of belief. Generally speaking, lack of belief is agnosticism.

Wow, no.

Atheism is a lack of belief, not a belief. Agnosticism is completely different.

You have two scales (from negative to positive):

Theism (god-belief):
Antitheism – Atheism – Theism

Gnosticism (Spiritual knowledge):
Antignosticism (Ignosticism?) – Agnostic – Gnostic

Simply put: The agnostic says “I don’t know” and the atheist says “I don’t believe”. Those that don’t know and don’t believe (like myself) are considered “agnostic atheists”.

You can have gnostic atheists (those who think that the spirit world is real – ghosts, et al – but don’t believe in God), you can have agnostic theists (those who don’t know, but believe), you can have agnostic atheists (like myself), and you can have gnostic theists (those who know and believe).

Gnosticism is weird to me so I’m going to leave it alone for the time being.

The battle-cry of the militant ignostic: “I don’t know and neither do you!”

I know you guys believe in ignoring all of my posts but I believe this argument can go on for as long as there are people who know the english language.

daniel, gnosticism deals with knowledge in general, not spiritual knowledge. You can have an (a)gnostic anything. Therefore a gnostic atheist knows there is no god.
