So how bad has BP fucked the world with this oil spill?
Or, perhaps with all the inevitable suits against them, how badly has BP fucked themselves?

Just be glad they have a monetary stake in this, otherwise I guarantee you they’d just kinda shrug and pretend to be thinking about it.
I am pretty sure it is already way too late to stop the ecosystem of the Gulf of Mexico from collapsing and even affecting the whole Atlantic Ocean.
Chain-reaction incoming (?)
Especially with hurricane season in fast approach.
They’ll plug the leak, Louisiana and Mississippi will get screwed, but people will stop caring after a few months, BP will live, and life will go on as usual.
The Invisible Hand of the Free Market can fix this, right? I mean, it’s not too late for us consumers to boycott BP, that will solve the problem won’t it?
Highly doubt this.
This will have far reaching environmental and economic consequences. The legal shit brought up against BP after the crisis is averted won’t be completely sorted through for centuries.
I highly anticipate BP to file Chapter 11 or something.
That’s not even taking into account the spread of the oil. I’ll be damned if it doesn’t reach Europe at some point and knocks at BP’s doors.
EDIT: And at the rate they’re going with these retarded schemes, they won’t be plugging the leak for a while.
It’s a horrible situation for the fauna and flora in the area. But alas, damage has been done and can’t be undone, only thing they can do is plug the hole, clean up the mess and home it never happens again.
Wouldn’t be surprised if it takes another 20 years for them to clean it all up and then another 20 years for nature to restore itself.
That’s what you get for legalizing offshore drilling. Down with BP.
But seriously, I hope BP will get it together.
Sometimes I foolishly hope that the 2012-doomsday-theories aren’t fake. Mankind deserves to be wiped out.
Agreed. I don’t even wanna know our purpose on this planet. And if the Bible was right about God creating us to protect the earth, we did a really bad job.
Good thing the Bible is fiction.
Seriously - this is just another nail in humanity’s coffin. The sooner our species passes away, the better for Earth and all its inhabitants (save us, of course).
I dunno, I’d rather lead a long and happy life and give the generations after us the same chance.
Although my life will probably be unhappy, like most people’s.
To be fair, I think hurricane season might be a good way to deal with this oil spill.
Hurricane -> water/oil everywhere -> electricity poles snap and fall over -> sparks ignite the oil -> fire slowly uses up all the oil -> fixed.
Firecane’s are the way to go.
Well you know what they say right, a better nature starts with yourself.
Nah, I want to sit there, front row seat when it all happens. Popcorn in my hand, sipping a soda.
You are joking, right? BP file Chapter 11 (that’s bankruptcy, right?)?
I don’t think you quite anticipate the scale of BP. It is a monumentally large multinational corporation which brought in $246.1 billion last year. That resulted in a profit of $16.58 billion. That’s a lot of moneys.
Furthermore, companies like BP have the amazing ability to cost spread. They pass the cost of the cleanup onto their consumers with increased prices, so they wont be hugely economically affected by the whole disaster.
One interesting fact that’s never been raised is that while BP were currently leasing the rig, they weren’t in direct control of it at the time. The operators were employed by the owners of the rig, a company by the name of Transocean Ltd. Shouldn’t they hold some of the responsibility?
And a whole lot of buildings get burned to the ground in the process. Yeah, I kinda like that solution. let’s hope it happens.
Small cost to save nature.
Yes, I know they are worth 136 billion. But there’s a high chance they will file for chapter 11 anyway to avoid lawsuits, to get rid of debts due to suits already made, and to really retool themselves.
Companies have filed bankruptcy for purposes other than money before.
However, if they don’t file chapter 11, they are still fucked. Do you have any idea how many claims will be brought against them? The fishing industry, the tourist industry, the boating industry, Louisiana, Mississippi, beach industry, animal rights enthusiasts, and the United States. And that’s just right now. After hurricane season spreads all of this to the tropics, you can count Cuba, Haiti, Jamaica, and whatever Mexican or South American province it reaches.
Then, later, when the oil migrates out of the gulf, goes around the tip of Florida, and gets caught in the current, it will be brought directly to Europe. When the spill starts knocking on BP’s door in Britain, I hope they are sued by their own country…and others.
The company is good for $136 billion. But that money adds up when they are sued over and over. And they will be sued over and over. They will be run into the ground. One of two things will happen as a result. The company will close and thousands upon thousands of workers will be put out of work, or the US could absorb them and keep them afloat like GM.
