The Boredom Thread

This is a video on Vimeo that shows Bioshock being played on the Macbook Pro. Mind you, this game has to run on DirectX 9.0, Collision. I checked on Steam to make sure. It is running on a native version of Windows Vista. Check the comments under the video screen if you don’t believe me.

FYI the Alu macbooks have a normal Gforce GFX card… It tends to get hot, sure, but it certainly is a DX9 capable card, afaik?

You’re correct, Phil. I checked on Amazon and all those games that they tested (Call of Duty 4, Doom 3, Quake 4 and Unreal Tournament 2004) were the Mac OS Leopard versions of the games. I thought they tested the Windows versions on Mac. That was my mistake. Still, that video on Vimeo that I posted shows Bioshock on a Bootcamped Windows Vista running on a Macbook Pro with good graphics and a good framerate. So I guess I will have to try Windows XP games on my Macbook and see what happens for myself.

i’m so bored i could actually listen to my grandad dribble on about the good old days.

I’m so bored I could even post in this thread… but I won’t

If Bioshock can run on the Macbook Pro on Windows Vista on the video that I posted on this page, I know that I will be able to play Black Mesa Source on this Macbook laptop. When there is videos that prove it, like the one I posted above on this page, it’s a no-brainer. Half Life 2 Episode Two has lower system requirements than Bioshock, I’m pretty sure, so I should be able to play it with no problems. I know that Crysis won’t work on my laptop seeing that the Crysis game is meant for top-notch PCs (this is for all you PC fanboys and fangirls on this forum, a shout out, I also have a PC, it just has a slow Intel Celeron processor and has a crappy graphics card) and I also know that Quake 4, another graphics demanding game, would have to be set to the minimum settings in-game for me just to play it. Watch the video I posted on this page and you’ll see that Macs can do more than Microsoft Office 2007 and iWork/iLife '09.

EDIT: Just some additional news. I found out that Bob Nintendo also has a Mac laptop called the Macbook Pro. He plays Steam games on it, no doubt the Windows operating system on the Macbook (aka Boot Camp). With the Vimeo video and Bob Nintendo playing Steam games on Windows on a Mac computer, I have enough evidence to push forward through all the naysayers that tell me I cannot play games on my Macbook on Windows.

/facepalm

Given that Macs these days are glorified PCs with standard x86 parts (the only thing about them that’s really different is using EFI rather than BIOS), there’s no reason why they can’t run games well when running Windows. Boot Camp doesn’t do anything magical, it just emulates a BIOS so that Windows can boot up on an EFI system.

They’re not really designed for it, though - Mac usually have weak graphics cards; you have to buy a Mac Pro before you get a decent GPU, and even then it’s woefully underpowered for a workstation-class system. Using MacBooks (Pro or otherwise) for gaming is also usually a bad plan, as the fans in these systems are prone to failure if the system’s stressed for long periods of time.

Is it truly no wonder that a thread called “The Boredom thread” is full of Mac-talk?

The internet is only going to be around for like, three more years before they replace it with something better.

Teleportation. That’s the next step in our species’ evolution.

I doubt it will ever be replaced. It shall consume the whole world before we can do something.

Mac < PC.

Who the hell want to pay that much for that hardware?

Then id rather have my big non-mac pc.

It’ll be replaced by more Internet… If Governments don’t attack it, and make it law abiding first. :expressionless:

I regularly play TF2 on my MBP, I fully intend to play BM on it as soon as its released.

Well, ot you, probably.
And why does anybody look at retail prices? Go to Singapore, everything costs 3-4 time cheaper.

Psst, be careful about posting something like this in BMS forum, or… here they come, Nerd RAAAAAGE!
Gamez sux, btw.

WHERE DID THEM MUDKIPZ RUN OFF TO?!

go back to 4chan ::retard:

I’ve never been there, and I sure as hell have no plans on going there <3

Well, I found some more evidence on the Internet. There is a video on YouTube where Half Life 2 Episode One is being played on a Macbook. I found out though in the video on the second link that I provide that the fps (frames per second) suffers when you turn on the HEV suit flashlight. Here are two videos:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
