The Best Laptops

i have never upgraded any BIOSes because i don’t need to.

I’m going a bit off topic with this but… I’m getting an Alienware Area 51 Desktop to replace my current one. Good choice? Hope so.

Really? I mean, really?

Not at all. Sorry bro, but Alienwares are just way too pricey and not reliable at all. Sure, they’ve got shiny towers, but that’s pretty much it.

Guess I’ll just put my money into something a little more reliable. You all mentioned the ASUS laptop? I’ll look into it.

i got a MEDION Akoya with Win7 Home Premium, intel i3, 4 gb ram(-1 gb for grafics-card i guess cuz i can only use 3 gb) and a ATI mobility radeon 4650. 18,4 inch display(it´s quite heavy)(so you know they don´t make shitty laptops only)
i am quite happy with this thing. once you uninstall all the useless software it´s really handy. i have it since christmas and it has yet to show any downsides.(well one time it didn´t want to boot, problem solved itself somehow)
far cry(i know, shitty game) ran on i think maximum or at least high graphics fluent. i don´t remember if i played in 1680x945 or 1280x768(19:9). haven´t tried crysis cuz i hate the game.
i think the only “not so great” thing is that the hdd is a little slow when it comes to move big data-packages. but replacing hhds shouldn´t prove that kind of a problem if one should feel it´s too slow. there´s a recovery dvd with win7 on it. you could use it to install win7 on the new hdd.

well to cut a long story short: if medion sells in your country, you might want to at least search for them and their laptops and get further information. i ought to mention that (at least where i live) medion is known for not being too pricy.

any opposing opinions/expierences?

no, your 1gb is totally wasted and can’t be used until you install windows 7 64 bit

Yep. x86 systems only support 3GB of ram. But if you installed Win7 64-bit, you could take advantage of that 1GB of ram wasted, as x64 systems support way more ram (home premium supports 16GB IIRC).

Fixed.

My brother spent way too much on an Alienware laptop a few years ago, and it was shit (partially) because it had horrible air flow. Overheating kept frying internal components, and it was too big for cooling pads. Don’t get an Alienware.

i was so damn sure that x86 supported a maximum of 4 gb ram. thanks for pointing that one out.

I have a 17" wide screen toshiba that’s really huge and it was dropped really hard but I didn’t even notice until I opened it to replace the CPU, all the corner screws broke off but it still works perfectly.
