Fix’d

[COLOR=‘Red’]I’m getting tired of all the spam and I’m itching to ban some fools.

Do my eyes deceive me, or are those assassins using the same type of springs Chell uses in the Aperture Science Enrichment Center?

A question that maybe Javid or other real soldiers can answer best: Do nightvision goggles actually have that eerie red glow in real life?

Indeed they are. The Black Mesa devs have decided that the heelsprings from Portal make sense to be used by the Assassins as they appear to be a common technology within the Half-Life universe, used by Chell in Portal, featured on the legs of the Combine Assassin in concept arts for Half-Life 2 and Eli sporting a similar looking contraption as a replacement for his leg. Even in reality we have a similar device that has been adopted as an extreme sport akin to skating, rollerblading etc.

In the context of Black Mesa they serve to explain the F_Assassins uncanny acrobatics.

No. Goggles do not glow. If they are equipped with a strong infared light, it may make a faint redish glow, but the whole idea of night vision is so that you can see without being seen. Glowing defeats the whole point.

Dias is correct. Although you might also see the green light on the inside being projected onto the wearers eyes/ eye sockets. Most night vision goggles have a switch that turns on a tiny red light(normally called an infared illuminator) that to the naked eye looks almost like the red light on the PS3 when it’s plugged in but not on(I don’t know how else to explain that). It is only really useful when there is not enough ambient light for the night vision goggles to amplify into a visible image. There are very few areas in HL1 where I think it would be necessary to turn it on.

I assumed as much, but didn’t wanna tell unless somebody with real knowledge in the field would provide info. Thanks for the answer. Both to Dias and Javid.

Half-life’s werent that big either, but the calm walking animation made them bounce much more than what one would expect. Which of your animators was in charge of the assassin?

amirite?

You should probably work on your photoshop skills, or the lack there of.

looks more like an MS Paint job to me :stuck_out_tongue:

I just noticed that they have heel springs exactly like Chell from Portal.

No shit.

I actually just saw Ram’s post with the picture of the assassin 2 pages back and went straight to quick reply, I didn’t notice that there was another page there.

aw, y not?

Because walrus.
