WTF !? How many Rams are out there ? Did the clone wars happened finaly ??
:fffuuu:
Oh god no! Not again!!!
Holy shit. Laser beems are invisible.
Except the green ones.
Totally lost me. Was that a reference to something?
I like this idea. the devs should get some inspiration from CoD 4 for this, for instance, they should have something similar to the scene were Cpt. price sneaks up and stabs a spetznaz in the back of the neck; the player comes accross an assassin backstabbing a scientist/security guard, the assassin then quietly lays the body down before seeing the player and whipping out her pistols, putting a few bullets in the HEV suit and then running off.
@Javid: One who claims to have been a soldier in Iraq might have known what a Booby Trap is.
And it was I with the “shitty suggestion”. I was not the only one finding it a cool idea. And it would actually be possible to implement without too much trouble. The easiest example for a booby trap that I know is a tripwire connected to the rings of a set of handgrenades, dangling somewhere above the ground. You can encounter this trap in Fallout 3, and it is really not easy to spot, but possible. And you have a second or two to dodge it if you can.
Also I find that the obvious laser tripmines and turret activation beams in the original half-life were too obvious. At least in hard mode I would have loved to have them be invisible. Just a little glow on the emitter, suggesting that it is active. Of course, the first tripwires one encounters in the game might as well be seen by the player, but there should be a reason for it - like steam coming from a broken pipe, bathing the corridor in gray fog, making the tripwires visible. Or a sudden crack in the roof, with a clowd of dust coming down just in the moment when the turret’s activation laser was about to be crossed by Freeman.
Yes, I KNOW that this is some difficult shit and that it is not gonna be implemented. I am just sick of plain-to-see tripwire lasers (or whatever they are called) in fps games. Didn’t like them in Jedi Outcast, don’t like them in Half-Life: Source and don’t like them in Half-Life 2. They are just too easy to dodge. I’d find it cool to have to make the beams visible first, before I can try to dodge them. Because laser beams usually are not visible. That’s the point of having them as motion sensors for automatic defense weaponry and tripmines.
As said before, I KNOW that this is too much realism for a game and I KNOW it’s not gonna be implemented. I’d just find it cool.
The idea with the assassins having booby traps set up against Freeman is something that would be a compromise. I am not ASKING to implement this, nor DEMANDING it - just suggesting, as the thread title suggests
And it’s not a shitty idea.
“it would actually be possible to implement without too much trouble” If you can create decent NPC AI to run around and plant tripmines on a walls in places that are remotely useful, without the NPC blindly running into them, and without being too cheap in terms of placement, i’d love to see it.
No. It was a statement regarding the visibility of most laser beams.
Wet dream or just normal type?
Uh yeah I am still a soldier and I have shown my military ID on here before to prove it. I know what a booby trap is thanks, I was being a smart ass. And don’t be all butt hurt just cause I think your idea is bad.
If you have really thought that this is what I had in mind, I can actually understand why you might find my idea bad. But then - I have pretty much made it clear that my whole idea was just about implementing another object into the game, placing it in the same areas as the assassins and programming it so it can only be activated by the player. Maybe you are deliberately misunderstanding me? The alternative would be that your intelligence is lower than I expected. I can’t imagine that.
or maybe the alternative is that your idea is genuinely bad and you are in fact not as smart as you think you are.
Get over it. Go sit on an iceblock until you butt stops hurting.
Aren’t the assassins annoying enough as it is, just leave them alone.
Quote for Truth
Excuse me for skipping through your poorly written crap and skipped to “The idea with the assassins having booby traps set up against Freeman”
Especially when most of the shit posted could be simplified to ‘attach tripmines to other, larger explosives’ and ‘make the tripmine lasers invisible, but seen through conveniently placed particle emitters.’
One thing that I never liked about the assassins (aside from them being bloody impossible to shoot) was the way they suddenly appeared out of nowhere, without any foreshadowing, that is unless I missed something.
I think it would be effective if there are a few fleeting glances of them, leading up to that first warehouse fight. Sort of like the Hunter’s introduction in Episode 2.
One more thing; I can’t remember if this was addressed before the crash, but was there talk of a distinct Assassin “squad leader” or am I misremembering?
mmmmm how I’d love to corner one of them in a garden and…ooo sorry did I type that out loud?:fffuuu:
Whow - if that’s the same way that outsiders in US schools are bullied, I can seriously understand why they go gunshopping and then slaughter their classmates and teachers. I won’t post any more ideas in this forum. It is obvious that there is little appreciation for them here. Sorry for annoying you with my existence and persistance.
Christ, relax. Get that bee out of your bonnet. Untwist your knickers. Don’t take everything so seriously.
I can’t speak for everyone else’s behaviour, but you were insulting a few members and you can’t expect not to get a little flame in return. And the gunshopping gag? Just a little over the line dude.
