Lean your arbitrary numbering systems.
It means it’s at a widespread human infection, but that doesn’t mean it’s any more dangerous then it was before.
He could have at least posted this when, you know, people actually had swine flu.
100 ways you could die this afternoon–tonight at 11.
Seriously. I haven’t heard a thing about swine flu since March or April.
Secondly, Ram’s right, if a massive pandemic of swine flu goes around, and people are dropping dead in the streets, my mind will be on more important things than BM. Like, say, for instance…oh, I don’t know… not dying?
Widespread panic is more dangerous than swine flu.
Raminator doesn’t need to worry about swineflu, swineflu needs to worry about Raminator… so does Chuck Norris
If the people we trust to solve these problems are stumped, what hope do we have? I’ve already modeled my life to avoid the things that can kill me, there’s nothing more I can do. I don’t think anyone here is in a position to stop this thing, so speculations will only serve to create more unease and panic. You, firefly, seem intent on causing us worry about a situation outside of our control. In effect, you are making our lives worse by mongering fear and anxiety. If a pandemic is coming, it will come whether we take notice or not. You are free to live your life afraid of the possibilities, but don’t expect the rest of us to live only for the sake of living.
heck, i’m in norway. the country in the world that overreacts the most on the swine flu
“If a tree falls in the woods and no-one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?”
Basically sums up my opinion of Swine Flu.
Sure people will die from this.
But then again, 2000 people in Holland alone die from the normal flu each year.
But that’s because they’re old, or already have disseases.
This swine flu thingy won’t do a thing except give you a fever if you’re an average person that doesn’t currently already have a terrible disease that’s nearly killed you.
Swine Flu was eons ago, whoever succumbs to it now is a weenie.
has anyone posted statistics yet?
Influenza and Pneumonia - 65,313 - 2.7%
Worldwide there have been under 400 deaths.
Of course that is USA only, but it is interesting to note that they combined Influenza and Pneumonia. Neither one make a dent in the table unless combined? Let me know when Swine Flu has its own category and it reaches 10%. Than I might worry. Or not.
Swine Flu Death Toll Climbs to 1,154 as of a week-and-a-half ago.
It’s a good thing you’re posting on the internet, because you’re a moron.
The rate of deaths rises with a spread of infection. You only heard about it on the news when it started killing people. More than two thirds of the deaths so far have been since you stopped seeing the media coverage.
Well, FIRSTLY. Read the bottom line of the first page you linked to:
“Updated 09/24/2005”
And as for the second page I’d love to know where that site got their figures from. Astoundingly wrong. There have been over 1000 deaths so far worldwide. And another death in my region has just been announced.
Even if this wasn’t the internet, nobody would do anything about it. I think the idea of H1N1 is fun stuff because everybody was all pooping their trousers over it, even if now they’re really dying over it.
besides, FORTY-THOUSAND MEN 'N WOMEN EVERYDAY
WE CAN BE LIKE THEM
COME ON BABY
WE’LL BE ABLE TO FLY
DON’T FEAR THE REAPER
over here in norway, there’s something about the swine flu each day and noone has even yet been killed by it. and noone has gotten it in the country. only out of country
They have every right to. I mean, they’re located right next to Mexico.
Oh wait . . .
Right, missed a lot of posts here but whilst there is a threat of it mutating into something more serious, that’s also true of any strain of flu.
There is no point living your life in a constant state of stress and panic over what might happen because that is what will shorten your life. Not diseases you don’t have.
Edit: got rid of something that was unnecessarily harsh.
Ok than, let us say that 2000 have died from Swine Flu. That is still only .00003 percent of the world population. That is quite irrelevant compared to the other ways to die on a daily basis. More people die from renal failure, exposure to smoke, or accidental poisoning each and every year than have ever died from swine flu.
And average deaths a year don’t need to be 100% up to date. One year isn’t going to be that much different from the next. Sure, there may be a percent or two difference, but that is statistically unimportant.
To follow on from TheeGoatPig’s post: there are plenty of fatal diseases and conditions that you can simply contract for no reason whatsoever. Even the non-fatal ones can devastate people’s lives.
You are at least able to take preventative measures against swine flu should it become more serious.
I do respect the concern about the disease but from my own personal experience I can assure you that the stuff that isn’t in the news is every bit as bad as the latest fad. Obviously people should be concerned about actual threats, but being in a state of alert over something that could become threatening seems like overkill.
Oh, and Fox News is a terrible source of news in my opinion. It’s like listening to someone reciting especially gloomy fairy tales for toddlers.
Total cases of swine flu: 233,863
Total deaths: 2,226
Source is wikipedia, from a semi-locked article. Facts could be skewed, but to be quite honest. Even if I do get it, I like my odds.
