Sweet Map [DoD:S]

Ok, since this thread has been moved to a more fitting place (thank you! :smiley: ) I’m editing this post to just include a gallery of current shots and all I ask is that you guys continue to give me advice on the art side :slight_smile: Having feedback is basically my motivation to keep developing this, so thanks!

p.s. the original post here asked about a glitch in the map, so some of the following posts may not make sense; that’s why :wink:

What entity are you using for the grass?

prop_static, but nevermind I just placed a new texture with a grass blend that adds it for me, properly.

Speaking of the map, however, what would you suggest I do to that road? It seems to add a lot of blank space and feels too… open.

Add a shot-up car or something. Maybe a displacement crater.
Also, you might want to look into prop_detail (I think that’s what it is)

Lots of potholes filled with dirt displacements and some cars. Or maybe some sand bags and a fort set on top of a large dirt crater. Maybe make it kind of a dug out. Nice work BTW, I’m impressed.

I prefer shadows to nighttime.
So the street isn’t too busy? What do you guys think of like a fire or something somewhere?

Trash decals. Works for HL2.

Wish I was good enough to be on the BM team though haha.

I’d suggest some more barbed wire and antitank obstacles near the end of that road. Like someone else suggested, perhaps some hulks of civilian cars on the side of the road, and various debris (bricks, etc) scattered around.

I wish I could actually map! Looks pretty good.

I’ve always liked the bright, HDRy style of DoDS, your map is a perfect example. Looks really good, but if anything it’s not busy enough. Add some more random crap, preferably random crap that provides some, but not too much cover.

But the stairs are disappearing stairs. =\ But how do you accommodate that type of problem?

Very nice map. The improvements to the street are great, I like the lighting and texturing.

Well, damn, alot of people like this. Maybe I should have had the stones to apply a while back to the BM team :frowning:
