Sweet Black Mesa - Is It Possible?

I’ve been wondering, is it possible to re-create the mod “Sweet Half-Life” with Black Mesa utilities?

For those who don’t know, “Sweet Half-Life” is a mod for the original GoldSrc Half-Life. It’s pretty neat, with over-the-top scenes, and a little anime-ish. But the mod itself is pretty complex, and I’m wondering if it’s actually possible to re-make it.

If this is in the wrong section, please inform me about it.

You’d just have to redo all the map work and scripting, and maybe some modelling, depending if there are custom models.

There are also custom weapons and NPCs, which would not be possible using Black Mesa’s codebase, so unless the devs release the source code (Which they may after the final release, they have debated it IIRC) you’ll have to code the entire game from scratch.

Ah, well…

It was a pretty long shot anyway.

I’m just wondering how people haven’t done this, already. C’mon, how is there STILL not an Opposing Force Black Mesa mod in the works?

Because there’s already a mod for that?

There is a mod for Blue Shift and someone is remaking it on Black Mesa

Yeah, exactly. There were TWO Blue Shift mods made in Black Mesa, actually. I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do, I’m just surprised no one has tried remaking OP4 in Black Mesa.

Well to be fair, OP4 isn’t as easily done in BM as BS because it requires a bunch of new weapons and NPCs, so that could be one reason.

That’s probably the reason. You don’t really need Black Mesa’s codebase in order to remake Blue Shift.

Wait, isn’t Operation: Black Mesa an OP4 remake? Or is that its own engine?

Yes, but it’s not made with Black Mesa.

They’re both in Source 2007 Engine.

Yeah, just no consistent assets between them.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
