No. Just… no.
i’ve already swapped a few tracks with HL1 stuff. Proved to work like a charm.
Don’t be shy. The segments will not stand too much, because the main game is already great and detailed. You are not stealing the main spot…because that’s impossible. Black Mesa rules. You are making it more awesome with the additions.
And the music is in Half Life’s DNA; if the scenes will stand because of that, it will be because Half Life music rocks, not because you are a attention whore or something like that. So put it, let the maps shine…
Surface Tension is the game’s climax, after all.
I would help you with the Tentacle and Heli chase, but I’m a hammer noob. What a pity,
So is this map somewhere for download ?
Just go for it, your map shown is awesome, just continue with ur great work! And indeed add those extra stuff!
U’re doing a great job!
Hey wait a sec:
So far, it’s a 3-maps project:
from the massive fight against the Vorts, till the end of Surface tension.
He aims to make them work seamless with BM.
He will release his stuff soon(I hope),in order to be tested.
i would like to see multiple tentacles coming out of a chasm… not just coming out of the sand, like in hl… before you get to the canyon
Don’t over work yourself. I know how it feels, just take it slow and if you need some time pleasure time, use it.
Again, over all, stellar work. I hope to see more of your renditions of the end of ST.
About the extra space, if you can maybe a crash site for a Harrier or of an Apache as a set piece with some random aliens examining the wreckage? You did see a damaged Harrier fly by in the last map after all.
Edit: If you want a crashed harrier set piece, you may want to ask around, I’m sure some people have some modeling skills they would be willing to lend you.
If you want make Grunts tougher then perhaps lower their number at that scene? Don’t forget that they have homing bullets that mostly don’t miss. AND you must reload the TOW Launcher manually here.
Where i can get the music track from 5:40 min?
Is it another version of Surface Tension 3 ?
Yeah, you might want to rebalance the level with the default .cfg to make sure it’s playable by the maximum number of BM players.
Also, as for the music situation, you could always look around the internet for some of the cut BM tracks, or the older versions of some existing ones from Joel’s site.
This is what I think about this remake:
Great job! But those manta rays should fly a bit higher, their wings actually clip through the building.
seconded.
I also agree with one of the posters above, it would be nice to see a crashed harrier or something in that extra area your adding.
It would also be really cool to see a tentacle own some marines or a vehicle.
Eh, no tentacles please. The one in ST made no sense. The ones in Blast Pit felt like one big entity and the ones in Xen might just be the same thing but even bigger.
The tentacles in st wouldn’t have to be all that big. In hl they were alot smaller in fact, If that is what is bothering you.
Oh you mentioned before that you wanted to make some changes to the beginning of surface tension. When the helicopter makes its intro and shoots a rocket at the bridge, could you please add an alien or something on that bridge, if you get around to it, because it makes no sense that the chopper would try to destroy the bridge for no reason at all.
The reason was to stop you from gaining direct access to the controls in that tower of the dam. Forcing you to make the decision to find an alternate route.
Made sense the 1st time through for me.
I’ve been busy with reality today (alas, sometimes I do have to do stuff IRL too!), so I haven’t had time to keep up with the thread. Thank you everyone who’s been giving me kind words though. I appreciate it and will continue to work hard to get this project finished.
What I may end up doing is something along the lines of implementing the original HL music into the map, or at least a remake of one of the songs (as it may very well be not allowed for me to include the originals). I have a friend who is great with music, I might ask him to take a go at remaking an HL song for me. Have no fear, I will only use something like that IF IT IS GOOD. I will however, make the music optional, and not installed by default with my maps. I dunno…the whole of BM goes without using any original HL songs, like I said I just think it’d make my segments stand out more than I’d like. But then again, I’d like to have some music. We’ll see.
This is correct. I have 3 maps planned:
Map 1 - Remake of the first half of C2A5F from HL1.
Map 2 - Remake of the second half of C2A5F from HL1, with a few new areas.
Map 3 - The Gargantua chase
I will privately send these maps to alpha testers once I have completed all 3 to a standard I’m pleased with. I will revise them based on feedback, and then release an open beta. Then a final release.
This is easy to do and I will take a look at it once the hard stuff is out of the way. And music wise that ain’t a bad idea.
Well, BM compared to HL1 gave you the sense in Surface Tension and FaF that they were pulling out because they were getting slaughtered by Freeman. HL1 gave you the sense it was because of the aliens massacring them. Heck, that’s the reason I’m remaking these bits - it helps restore the HL1 feel. The alien on the bridge is an example of that. In HL1 the heli is attacking the aliens. In BM, it’s because of you. Small things like that, do make a difference.
Thank you. I’m not adding any major outdoor areas (my additions are indoors) so this seems impractical. I’m gonna let the project flow and if I get into a situation where it might work, I’ll definitely use it. It’s a neat idea!
I don’t think re-using music from the original Half-Life is a good idea. It kind of defeats the point of a total remake if you’re just going to reuse the old stuff.
Agree totally with that, and this is also valid for any other piece of music non made by the team. My oppinion is: If any music or cut track from the original OST dont fit as expected, then don’t use any music at all. If the purpose of this map project is to add content to the mod keeping the consistency with the whole game, so this has to extend for its music/ambience sounds.
To help with the music, here are all the early/cut samples of the OST (some of them aren’t in Joel’s site… And as others pointed out, in his site are others samples made by him). Also I’m sure that Joel will help you the best way he can if you talk to him about this project.
EDIT:
Oh, and I forgot to mention… This project is full of win! Keep it up!!
