Surface Tension Uncut - Re-Adding Cut Areas/Scenes (Expansion Project)

It fits in beautifully!

Congratulations Text, on your becoming appointed to the position of a BMS Developer.

Well done, mate!!!

I know that we have been told that it is very unlikely that ST Uncut will be made official, but now that Text is a dev I hope to see at least some elements of it in the second release of Black Mesa. The chapter is obviously and painfully unfinished in its current vanilla form.

Hey, don’t disrespect the devs! They wouldn’t release the game with problems in it; Text’s work is purely supplementary.

(That is the official position, right?)

I’m not even sure what you’re saying, but the official position on future releases is: when it’s done.
The official position on the uncut chapters being included is: unlikely but possible

I think it’s pretty much impossible to expect anyone to release anything without any problems.

I noticed just before ST begins there is a picture of what appears to be the final scene from Blue Shift. Just before ST begins there are four marines and one of them is manning a gun. This is just after getting outside when the three scientists let you out. In the room where the big gun is there’s a picture on the wall and it looks like the final scene of BS. Looks like a black mesa vehicle with Dr. Rosenberg standing outside and you see it from the point of view of Barney Calhoun.

I meant no disrespect, I know that there has been some troubles behind the scenes with Surface Tension. I just hope they have been dealt with is all I’m sayin’.

I’m sure that they’re well aware of the situation. Let’s try to keep this thread to discussion about the additional maps for Surface Tension created by Text, though.

Text, just had to say, I love your commentary videos. Great insights and makes me appreciate not just what went into your mods, but all the thought and planning that went into BMS. Everything is done, or not done, for good reason. I add my echo to those wishing for an eventual BMS update that adds developer commentary.

But seriously, I could watch a playthrough of the whole game with your commentary. Must be the accent.

Heh thanks. I appreciate the kind words. I’ve actually been asked by quite a few people to do a full BM playthrough. Maybe someday, when I have the time! That’d be cool.

I’d say wait for the Steam release, or at least until OaR:U is completed

I reinstalled Black Mesa a couple of months ago and also installed OARU and STU. At least I’m pretty sure I did.
I played through OARU and it went pretty well but it seems STU is not there at all. It is supposed to start after the fight with the many Vorts, correct? I do that and then go into the room off the tunnel where I think I’m supposed to turn on a switch, then go back to the main tunnel and open the blast doors to start STU.
But there is no switch but instead a bunch of snarks. I then climb a ladder into a vent where I get dropped into a tunnel where I get chased by the garg and then call in the air strike.

So, what have I done wrong?

My guess is that you didn’t install the mod correctly. Surface Tension Uncut completely replaces the G map (which is the one that in stock Black Mesa has the garg chase). The fact that you’re still seeing the stock version is evidence of this.

Case in point: take a look at your maps folder and only your maps folder. Are you able to find a bm_c2a5h and a bm_c2a5i? If you can’t, then you got the directories wrong when you first installed, and you must try again.

Ok, I got a new hard drive a while ago and moved the old C drive to D, then reinstalled Steam on the new HD. For some reason Steam is still using the D drive version.

Interestingly, OARU installed to D but STU installed to C. Problem solved now.

My guess would be that the STU installer defaulted to C:/, as most installers normally do. I think I tried to implement a nifty script which would automatically find your Steam folder, but a scripter/programmer I am not, so it probably doesn’t work/isn’t included.

Yes it did default to C, which is what I thought I wanted.

When I changed the C to D it installed to the one that is being used. I guess I can delete the C drive version now.

For some reason all of a sudden the guard just doesn’t work anymore. I get past the steam puzzle and the small tripmine + turret room, and he doesn’t say anything and I have to noclip to progress.

Tried reloading saves both recent and further back with no difference

Do you have any mods installed besides Surface Tension Uncut (like Uplink)? If you don’t, then I recommend reinstalling it into your BMS folder. If you do, then I’ll give you a scenes.image file that will make whatever mods you have work properly.

Or you can launch faceposer and rebuild your scenes.image, that’d be even faster

The scene file is broken, you have to redownload the mod and extract the scenes folder again
